Trouble upload a document, via Amazon DTP, with Chinese characters

Posted on 09/17/2009 2:54:50 PM PDT by rudy45

I am trying to upload, via Amazon DTP, a document that has Chinese characters. If I upload a Word document, I get a message saying that the upload failed because of Unicode conversion problems. If i convert the Word document to a PDF, the upload happens, but instead of seeing characters, I see question marks. Can I upload Chinese characters via DTP? Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't know how to fix this for you, so here are some Chinese characters instead.

Do the ??? appear in the PDF before it is uploaded?

IIRC, PDF has to have the 'character set' available.

Depending on the purpose and length, you might consider converting it to a graphic to retain the original Chinese.

Assuming it is small enough (or you can break it down into manageable chunks), scan the document into pdf as an image (vice text) and upload it.

According to this site, “Content uploaded to DTP needs to be encoded as ISO-8859-1 (Latin 1). Unicode characters and non-western characters are currently not supported.”
