A FILM about Tasmania's cannibal convict Alexander Pearce has caused some audience members to vomit. The Mercury reports Van Diemen's Land follows Pearce's 1822 escape from the penal settlement on Tasmania's Sarah Island with seven other convicts, and the brutal dispatch of his fellow escapees. Director Jonathan Auf Der Heide said he was surprised people had reacted so strongly.
"The vomiting thing was a real surprise to me - we had two people vomit in New Zealand, and a couple of people have fainted during the first killing scene," he said.

Oscar Redding is quietly convincing as Australia's best remembered cannibal, Alexander Pearce.
If youre at all familiar with the legend of Tasmanian cannibal, Alexander Pearce, youve perhaps wondered why this gruesome true story hasnt been grafted onto celluloid sooner. The Irish penal convicts man-eating exploits have become part of Australian folklore, frightening the pants off campfire kids and adults alike.
The Pieman!!
So this is where the term “technicolor yawn” comes from!
Put all the cannibals and lepers on the same island, and you’ve
solved two problems.I’m surprised no one thought of this sooner.
that lie alone is enough to make one vomit.
I know how they feel. I wanna puke my guts out every time I listen to Obama for more than 5 minutes.
Why, exactly, would anybody desire to see such a movie? Shocking images, once seen, are hard to forget. I'll pass.
When you work around disgusting and/or shocking material regularly, you become desensitized to it. The scenes were clearly more shocking and gruesome than he, himself could perceive.
Sounds like your kind of movie!
That’s Entertainment!
Well said.
Probably wine snobs that were horrified that he served his mates with a chablis.
Sounds like a NATURAL for today’s Hollywood. With no writers no actors and no talent...GO FOR THE GORE!!
It does not surprise me that a movie caused some members of the audience to vomit.
This was exactly my reaction to Titanic!
LOL
I know what you mean... When I was little I lived in a pretty bad neighborhood in Long Island. The house across from me was a crack house. Anyway, there was a fight at that house, one of the men that was involved tried coming over to our house and was beaten to death on my front porch. I remember all the cops that were there and peaking out my front door seeing a bloody crow bar with hair stuck to it. I can never forget that image. I don't know why people would re-create that stuff for entertainment.
That's Delicious!
"See the movie so violent it mate audiences vomit!!!!"
Or you could give the lepers a couple of injections and clear that Hansen's disease right up.
A couple of injections works on the cannibals too, come to think of it. Different injections than for the lepers, but still...
