Only A Man Would Try This

Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this: Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse- sized tazer. The effects of the tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....?? WAY TOO COOL!

I have to admit, I was in a similar equally stupid situation, but at least I can blame it on youth. When I was about 13, I decided to try an experiment for the high school science fair, growing plants in an ionized environment to see if they would grow faster. (They did). I built a Tesla coil using a neon sign transformer, a 3 foot cardboard tube with about 5000 turns of wire. (I had a friend whose father worked at Georgia Wire, and did this for me. I had 2 large glass capacitors I made from safety glass with metal plates on each side. Long story, short, I could hold a 48" fluorescent light bulb anywhere within 20 feet of the coil and it would light up in my hand. I had the whole thing wired to a chicken wire cage, in which the plants were growing.

I had been up for 2 nights building this thing and between the sleep deprivation and stupidity, I watched as a wasp landed on the chicken wire and nothing happened-I was expecting a bug-zapper moment (The wasp wasn't grounded) Although I could smell ozone pouring out from this thing and hear the buzzing, i wasn't convinced it was actually working, so I reached over and touched the chicken wire. I was in a basement with a concrete floor in bare feet, and obviously was grounded. When I woke up about 1/2 hour later on the other side of the room, I felt like the guy in the above story. I have a healthy respect for electricity now! Fortunately I lived to tell the story.

This story reminded me of when my dad bought our first propane barbecue grill. I was helping him put it together holding the igniter. Had the button in one hand and the igniter in the other. I curiously pushed the button. It all came clear as to how it worked.

“At least he knows his wife is well protected!”

He probably feels just a little bit threatened by that.

My wife has access to the gun cabinet... getting “tazed” would mean she let me off lightly...

Only if the batteries aren’t dead. And what a time to find out if they are!
