At the very least, they should drop the “Jane Doe” crap and plaster her name and picture all over the media.
I realize that (right or wrong) they protect the identities of rape and other such crimes.
But there is NO reason to protect the identity of a false witness above the age of legal accountability.
No, they don’t. However, if they ever make another complaint (valid or otherwise) and the record is in the system, somewhere, you can bet her case against someone had best be airtight or her assailant will walk. The problem is there is no way to track a serial liar.
That’s the problem. They will do it again, if not stopped, unless there is something in the system that makes a note of false allegations. Police are in a difficult position, they have to act on a charge, but there is no follow up to make certain the creative genius of these false accusers is limited in scope and effect.
