“Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.[5]”

That’s pretty damn funny. Thinking of Byrd saying that is humorous. He looks like he would have been a KKK member. Much of my family father’s side of the family is from Alabama. I know many of them were Klan members back in those days. However, I never saw any of them be anything but kind to a black person. Not once.
I never really understood it. Once we went to Gasparilla in Tampa and my uncle was with the Shriners. He would take kids with cerebral palsy, etc, black, white, whatever and they had front row seats and the shriners did this for them. I thought that was really nice. However, when we got in the car to leave, I’ll be damned if he hadn’t left a bunch of KKK literature in there. In Tampa FL. WTF?
It sickens me how some people base their hatred on things like race alone (as opposed to the radical anti-American politics of many in the black leadership). I especially feel bad for the 10s of thousands of honorable black men and women who are proudly serving in our military.
