McKelvin's front lawn vandalized

Associated Press

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Bills players are concerned with their privacy and safety after the front lawn of a home belonging to cornerback Leodis McKelvin was vandalized following Buffalo's season-opening loss to New England.

Hamburg police on Tuesday confirmed the home of a Bills player was vandalized, but declined to release details of their investigation after an obscenity and the score of Monday night's game -- a 25-24 loss to the Patriots -- were painted in white on the player's lawn in suburban Buffalo.

McKelvin fumbled a kickoff return with under two minutes to play and the Bills leading 24-19. Three plays later, New England's Tom Brady hit Benjamin Watson for the go-ahead touchdown as the Patriots overcome an 11-point deficit in the final 2:06.

Bills linebacker Kawika Mitchell referred to a teammate's home being vandalized in a post on his Twitter page, though he did not say it was McKelvin's home. Mitchell warned fans that such behavior is disturbing.

I don’t condone this behavior, but if you’ve seen how dumb the play this guy tried to make was, you’d understand the mindset of the Bills fans that did this a little better.

It was a stupid play that cost them the game. But I am sure he already knows that. It is just a game though, leave the guy’s home alone. I hope they catch who did it.

Actually, trying to run the clock down under 2:00 was a smart move, to try and deny new England a free time out and allow Buffalo to run off more clock.

The problem was, he needed to protect the ball better.

McKelvin had to be the loneliest guy on the face of the earth after that play resulted in the Pats’ TD.

Obviously the vandal is a racist and is upset with McKelvin because he is black.

Yep, should have covered the ball with two arms, especially going up the middle of the field.

No mindset condones this kind of behavior, frankly.

If I recall correctly, he took the kickoff in the end zone. All he had to do was take a knee and the Bills could have worked clock from their 20. True, they might have turned it over that way, but running the kick back simply added unnecessary risk to the equation.

Come on... Really? Look, I'm a NY Knicks fan... If anyone has the right to vandalize a professional players house or anything... IT'S ME!!!

Seriously though, these fans are getting WAY out of hand with this. IT'S A GAME!!!!!!

I remember some South American soccer player being shot to death for a autogoal that lost the game for his team...

Actually, I'm not sure he does know it. He stated after the game that he would do it again in that situation (he also had tackling problems in this game, so not a good night for McKelvin). Coach Jauron didn't seem to have a problem with it, saying that he was just trying to make a play to help the team win. This might help explain why Jauron has a losing record the past three seasons.

Not only that, but the vandals also oppose Obamacare and are secret Ku Klux Klan members. They probably are tea baggers and are evil pro-life veterans as well. Exactly the kind of people that Homeland Security warned us about.

As dumb as mckelvin was on mon nite..no one should have their home vandalized..however..watching that idiot on mon nite..and then reading that he didn’t think he did anything wrong go shows to how strong the “Sportscenter” mentality is in sports nowadays..he wasn’t thinking of the team or what was best for the team..he wanted to have a big return so he could be on sports shows etc..why else would he continue to “run” when pats had him wrapped up instead of falling down and protecting the ball..it’s even worse that the bills head coach agreed with him..amazing..

I know I can get pretty riled up during a game, but come on people, it’s a game! In the end it has zero outcome on the fate of the World. There is a fine line between being a passionate fan and being an idiot. I’m willing to bet that this moron has crossed that line many times in the past.

Now here is my take on the fumble by McKelvin.
Should he have taken a knee in the end zone? Yes, I would have, but for some reason no NFL team drafted me. So what I would have don is pretty much irrelevent. The kid was just trying to make a play, he was doing what he is paid to do.
It sucks for Buffalo fans but it is what it is in the end, JUST A GAME!!! There is no need to terrorize a man’s family over a damn game!

There was nothing to be gained by foregoing the touchback.

That having been said, the people who did this really need to get a life.

Yes there was. By running off 5-6 seconds, he would have given the Bills 1st down with 2:00 to go, rather than 1st: down with about 2:05, basically allowing them an extra play to run off another 40 seconds (net of 35) after the 2-minute warning.

It's actually good clock management, which is sadly rare in the NFL these days.

That having been said, the people who did this really need to get a life.

Fully agreed.

Belichick pointed out the potential of saving one of his time outs with the 2:00 warning by kicking off. McKelvin just needed to hit the deck once the bodies got near him.

I see your point, and if New England only needed a field goal, then I would agree, but seeing as how they needed a touchdown, I would rather play it safe and have it on the 20, instead of potentially being pinned back inside the 10, in case he got stopped, or if there was an illegal block in the back, etc.
