Obviously, Slate’s David Putz has never seen any Michael Moore movies. Talk about “nutterdom”.

Red Dawn should remain forgotten.
A truly horrible film.

I remember that being one of my favorite movies when I was in elementary school. I remember being very disturbed by it the first time I watched it, and that was a good thing. I remember it was what made me realize the dangers of the world for the first time, and why it is important to have an armed citizenry.

I thought it would be his role in “North and South”.

I don’t think I saw that movie.
I’ll have to get it from Netflix.

Red Dawn was a foreshadowing of the alternate media to come. The critics went out of their way to smear this movie and discourage movie goers from seeing it. But it came out just at the beginning of the home video boom and was a big hit at the video store.

I always get a kick out of Red Dawn. No, it’s not great filmmaking. But dangit, it’s a boot load of fun to watch.
Besides, it has Harry Dean Stanton in it...and any movie with him in it is worth watching, in my book.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go watch Repo Man and Pretty in Pink again.

No doubt I’ll get flamed for this, but as much as I wanted to like Red Dawn going in, I just found my intelligence insulted in too many ways, from the over-the-top macho stuff to the cartoonish portrayal of how the enemy would deal with us after the invasion. I hope the remake handles these things a little more believably. I love a good us vs. them movie. I just don’t want to have to go “oh, come on” every few minutes.

“Red Dawn” and “The Patriot” should be required viewing in every High School in the USA.

Strange how much the left hated it's in that the directer did fact see his heroes as
any partisan... remember the Cuban commander sympathize with them because he had been a partisan in his day... he even let the two brother pass in the end...
What did Jed say gave him the right to shoot that first Russian point blank in the head? "We live here!"... that was very much the political theme
