Feds to probe Tweet the giraffe’s death

A federal probe is being launched into the death of Tweet, a gentle giant giraffe who tragically collapsed in his Boston pen after wrapping his scenes for the film “Zookeeper.”

Animal rights activists complained that Tweet was seen gnawing on a toxic tarp.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees companies that care for wild animals, will investigate whether Tweet was mishandled, after receiving the complaint yesterday from PETA.

“We’d be looking to see if Tweet’s death is related to any noncomplicance with the Animal Welfare Act,” said agriculture spokeswoman Jessica Milteer.

Tweet, 18, appeared in the hit movies “Ace Ventura” and “Evan Almighty.” He also appeared in ads for “Toys R Us.”

Tweet died Friday less than a day afer wrapping up work on the new Kevin James comedy.

According to the complaint, a whistleblower on the movie set witnessed Tweet repeatedly noshing on a blue tarp that covered his tiny 20-foot by 20-foot enclosure, and charged that may have killed him.

The Deptartment of Agriculture is unsure who owns Tweet.

Jone Bouman, a spokeswoman for the American Humane Film & TV Unit, disputed the whistleblower’s assertion that Tweet ate the tarp.

Bouman said a necropsy performed at the zoo within 30 minutes of Tweet’s death did not find pieces of a blue tarp in the giraffe’s mouth or stomach. The stomach contents, however, are still being analyzed, Bouman said.

I get through the day by telling myself what is “up-is-now-down” ....it helps a bit. Hence the upside down image.

Yeah! PETA is right to complain. If PETA had had their way, Tweet would have been stuffed into the back of a van, killed and dumped into a dumpster. Stupid film crews don’t even know how to properly kill and animal.

Animal rights activists are now in power on one radical is a Czar in the White House - Cass Sunstien - who beleives animals should have equal legal rights as humans in the courts with human lawyers enforcing their rights and suing us all on their behalf.

This is going to get mighty large and weird over the next few years.

I'm no PETAnik, but don't like seeing animals fuddle-duddled.

From a recent FR thread. Seems like a dumb thing to do, keeping a pet Grizzly, but Brutus seems to be doing OK.

Anthropomorphizing animals continues to be with us and probably will be forever. Once in a while it will kill us.

Interesting that:The gulf between animal exploitation and animal kinship, and between animal abuse and animal liberation, is fundamentally a spiritual one.

"..........but rather calls for personal responsibility for one's own and other' freedom; a responsibility to be ethical, caring, and respectful of the rights and interests of others and their freedom to be. The 'others' includes all living beings, not just the human species or members of one's own family, class, race or other affinity-group. Anarchy (an-archy) means no hierarchy, no ruler, no tier of power, and thus no structure for oppression and chauvinism because the truth of anarchy is equalitarianism; giving equal and fair consideration to the rights and interests of all members of the Earth community. And as we become one in spirit, this sacred community will know peace and justice that only we can bring into the world if we have the courage and commitment, and the ethical compass of compassion.

Richard Brooks has translated a relevant passage from the Tao Te Ching that was written by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu over 2,500 years ago:
"I have three treasures that I hold and cherish:
The first is compassion (or deep love) (tzu),
The second is frugality,
The third is not presuming to be first in the world.
Being compassionate, one can be courageous;
Being frugal, one can be generous;
Not presuming to be first in the world, one can become a leader (or minister).
Now, trying to be courageous without compassion,
Trying to be generous without frugality,
And trying to be a leader without humility
Is sure to end in death.
For compassion brings triumph in attack and strength in defense.
What Heaven wishes to preserve it surrounds with compassion." [ch.67]
