Elton John 'Is A Sinner': Church Attacks Singer Over His Plan To Adopt Ukrainian Baby Boy

By WILL STEWART

Elton John was branded a 'sinner' by the Orthodox Church in Ukraine last night in the row over his wish to adopt a baby from the country.

The comment came after officials confirmed there has been no application yet for the 62-year-old singer to adopt Lev, a 14-month-old boy whose mother has HIV. [Pic in URL]

However, at least one government source speculated that liberal politicians might seek to put a law through the Ukrainian parliament to enable the pop star to circumvent curbs which comprehensively forbid him from adopting. The Donetsk Diocese of the Orthodox Church was uncompromising in its stance against any move to help the singer and his partner David Furnish, who entered into a civil partnership in 2005.

Spokesman Father Georgy Gulyaev said: 'Thank God it's impossible under Ukrainian law for Elton John to adopt a child. 'The Church is strictly against same-sex marriages and the damage they cause. It's written in Holy Scriptures that homosexual marriage and relations is a sin.

'It is a sin, it is against nature, and it represents the dead end of human development. 'People pretend to have good intentions, create semi-marriages and so-called families, and moreover they dare to adopt children. Unlike people who are blessed by God to create natural families, these are people who succumb to their passions.

I don't think I have ever seen "genius" and Keith Richards used so closely together before.

Yes, I would rate Elton John's ability to turn Bernie Taupins lyrics into music as being in that category.

I go back to the Tumbleweed Connection days...

As do I.

In fact in the early 70's my future wife and I drove from Long Beach to Pasadena's radio station KPPC (the place to be), they were promoting Elton John, if you bought an album, you could throw a pie at Elton John.

We got there about 15 minutes too late! Damn!

It’s against Ukrainian law for a foreigner to adopt a child if the prospective parent is more than 45 years older than the child. I don’t think it’s fair for the law to be waived just beause you’re rich famous and gay.

I just don’t think there is a clear answer here. You are right, I know that. However, if he does love this child . . . My heart breaks for this child. I can’t help but picture those babies crying in their metal cribs.

No... wire... hangers. What are wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you - NO WIRE HANGERS EVER? I work and work 'till I'm half-dead, and I hear people saying, "She's getting old." And what do I get?

He was all down hill after “Yellow Brick Road”, which had moments of greatness interspersed with miles of pop mediocrity.

I didn’t know Elton John was a convicted child molester.
