Uninsured Feel No One Listens to Them

San Antonio - We’ve heard from the doctors, Congress, and private interest groups, all with great health insurance coverage, about where they stand on health care reform.

But what about those people who need coverage the most --- the uninsured?

Many leaving the ER at University Hospital say no one seems to be listening to them.

“Everyone who has insurance doesn’t worry about those who don’t,” says one woman.

Lambert Evans, who has a daughter in for treatment, says using the ER to treat medical illnesses is going about it in the wrong way.

“We need to put more emphasis on preventative care which saves money. By the time someone who needs help is at the ER it’s too late and it’s a lot more costly.”

Others say without the power and clout of the wealthier, and insured, no really cares about the uninsured.

“It’s a struggle,” says one man. “And it’s not fair. Yes, I am mad.”

The Census Bureau reveals that in 1987, 75 % of Americans had private health insurance but that by last year, only 67 % did.

Ironically, I actually worry a little less after reading that.

Let's see.......I've provided coverage for all five of my family, compared to your none. Which of us is really giving this any concern?

I wonder just what preventive medicine would have helped her daughter’s mental illness? Anyone?

This is why our system of government has failed. Too many people who simply can't carry their weight. And you know, I'm a little light on funds right now. Self-employed, insured through my wife's employer. And yet I still can't afford a certain dental procedure. It's not an emergency, but I have to put it off because I have to pay my quarterly taxes next week. Taxes that in part go to fund other people's health care. And yet, I'm not whining about it or looking for handouts. Hell, I just spent $400 to get medical care for my beloved pet rabbit. Pay for the ticket, take the ride. So many whiners. Makes me sick (no pun intended.)

I'd like a better system. I'd like to be able to pay as I go for routine stuff, and have affordable catastrophic insurance for doomsday. The insurance system is bolixed the way it is. But what they are proposing won't fix it. I'd like to see the feds stay the hell out of it, do the few things the Constitution intends for them to do, and let each state handle this issue in their own way. Fat chance of that happening. I'd really like to see America collapse once and for all, so we can start anew. I love America, but there comes a time.

Thousands of Mexican citizens are freeloading off every government program in San Antonio. With “free” ObamaCare, thousands more will come with their extended and extensive families. The system will be so broke in 20 years that “Obama” will be a curse word.

"Waaah!"
"It's not fair..."

Get a job, or create one for yourself.

¿ Maybe the daytime talkshow hosts (Harpo, MaPo, Tyra, etc) can sponsor a plan for their supporters.....

Too many people who simply can’t carry their weight.

Most of those CAN but won’t, imho.

These stories all overlook an important part of our current system.

Community Health Clinics exist in nearly every county to serve the needs of everyone.

There are Community Health Clinics, supported by both tax dollars and charity contributions. These clinics treat everyone who comes to them. If you don’t have insurance, you can go to one of these clinics and get affordable health care from doctors and nurses. These clinics offer all services, preventative care and routine medicine. Many use a sliding fee scale with discounts based on family size and income.

For more info, check out the Federally Qualified Health Center FAQ.

Produce something of value to other people first, and then maybe they will listen to you.

Or start their own (not-for-profit) health insurance companies.

"The Census Bureau reveals that in 1987, 75 % of Americans had private health insurance but that by last year, only 67 % did."

In part because more Americans reached Medicare age:

1987: 31.7 million on Medicare

2008: 45.3 million on Medicare

An increasingly significant minority of people share this viewpoint.

Many of the uninsured would rather smoke 2 packs a day and drink a twelve pack every evening instead of buying insurance.
The problem isn’t that we don’t listen to them because the MSM won’t make them stop.

Something I would like to see people keep in mind is that not all people that are uninsured are out seeking a govt handout. Some of us are uninsured due to mass layoff - not from being lazy. Job searching absolutely but NOT even trying to get govt assistance in the mean time.

I’m sick of these people complaining. Why don’t they have insurance? It is completely their choice. I don’t like paying for insurance either, but I also don’t like buying new tires, car repairs, house repairs, or anything else that isn’t “fun”.

Do these people have an X-box, PS, cable tv, fancy tire rims, or anything else considered a luxury? Do these people eat at restaraunts a lot? If so, I have no sympathy for them at all.

I have simultaneously worked 2 full-time jobs and gone to college full-time just to ensure that my family has insurance and that I will be able to improve our future standard of living. Now these people want penalize my success in order to support their lack of success. Most of these uninsured people either refuse to work, or refuse to work multiple jobs if neeed, or refuse to spend their money on insurance because it simply isn’t fun.

I understand about mass lay-off, but Sonic is hiring so are several other low-paying jobs, including daily temp jobs. I know this isn’t an ideal situation because people may need to work multiple jobs just to financially survive and buy insurance. However, I did it. I did a lot of jobs that I hated just to pay for my family needs.

Again, people need to learn not to indulge and to save money. I don’t own an X-box or GameCube even though my kids want one. I don’t go out to eat a lot. I don’t have all of the fancy cars, houses, electronics, or cable tv channels. I could afford all of these things, but then I couldn’t prepare for a rainy day or I might not be able to pay for my own insurance. I have made the choice to do without “fun” things so that I can properly care for my family.

I was uninsured for two years. I paid out of pocket for my doctors visits and medication. If they are using the ER to get simple treatment, they are contributing to the high costs of health care. These hospitals will find a way to get paid (i.e. charging the rest of us a lot).

As of a month ago I now have health insurance. There are ways to deal with the costs but many people seem to want a free ride at the expense of others. That I cannot agree to.
