Favre says he 'absolutely' would sit out if not healthy this year

Associated Press

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Brett Favre insists he won't let his durability streak hurt the Vikings.

Favre will make his 270th straight start when Minnesota plays at Cleveland on Sunday. That will match what the NFL considers the longest streak in history, held by former Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall from 1961-79.

Favre said Wednesday he "absolutely" would sit out this season if he's not healthy enough to suit up as Minnesota's quarterback. The 39-year-old also said he "may not" be able to play in all 16 regular-season games.

Favre said he was willing to sit last year with the New York Jets, and that he shared his concerns at the time with his coaches. His poor performance in December was due in part to his injured right arm.

Maybe he will just sit on the sidelines and cry.

Ok, at least this came out before my fantasy football draft onight. Other than that, the man is about as relevant as Paris Hilton.

Sad. What a disgraceful end to a hall of fame career. I am starting to believe some of the insider rumors about how arrogant, pompass and conceited he is.

I wish he would have just retired. I'm no packer fan but I had a respect and admiration for Favre. No so anymore. I'm embarrassed for him and feel sorry for the team he associates with.

Favre (farv) verb : To cling shamelessly to one's job to the point where it becomes incredibly annoying, thereby eroding years of good will.

Favre didn't go in the first 6 rounds of my draft.

I’m hoping for Schaub and Roethlisberger. I never get the WRs or RBs I want, but I’ve never missed on my QBs.

This guy is really going to enrage folks if he hurts Adrian Peterson's FF numbers by throwing INT's down in the red zone.

The quality of quarterbacks in the NFL is so bad, he’s probably still in the top 10.

I can't see Favre retiring voluntarily and just walking away. He reminds me of Holyfield or George Foreman. He just won't hang it up. It will take a real bad hit or bad injury that knocks the crap out of him before he finally comes to his senses.

Without that, he'll keep suiting up. Next season he'll be the backup in Oakland or Kansas City. Seriously.

Most people think Favre is an attention whore, but I think that in his mind playing football is only thing between living and drinking/pill-popping himself to death.

I thought that was the definition of “Jordan” (as in, Michael)?

Personally, I think by mid-August, he’s driving Deanna so nuts with not knowing what to do with himself that she makes him go back just to get him out of the house.

It’s possible that no one in the NFL will be able to play all 16 games. It’s a rough sport, after all.

The guy’s just being honest. And yes, I’m a 40-year Vikings fan.

What was your first clue?
This guy is an egomaniacal jerk.
He's destryoed any legacy he may have had in the NFL.
He needs to just go away for good.

Maine, Scott, dog? Will y'all be posting a Pick-em Thread and/or Live Thread?

If not, here... are my picks for opening weekend:

Ben's will find his planned ravaging of a Tennessee Momma tonight more of a task than he envisioned. In the end, he will not apologize.

The Vickless Falcons will feast their fill of the tunaless Phins.

Denver will looose its mile high when the Bengals have Broco haunch for lunch.

Farve will show the Viqueens how to tie a record for starts but one too many interceptions will allow the Browns to steal the game.

Jacksonville will find hoofprints all over their hides as Manning Heavy goes to 1 and 0.

The Aint’s host Detroit and the Lions keep out of the win column again.

In the tradition of bringing a knife to a gun fight, the Iggles stage a dog fight and are surprised to find Carolina brought Panthers!

Baltimore had Kansas City Chief as the main course.

Allegra's Texicans teach the Jets to not mess with Texas.

Allegra's second team, those godless Deadskins, visit Manning Lite in a losing effort, but they end up equaling the number of times Jimmy Hoffa made it to the Meadowlands end zone.

The Cards gore the Niners.

The Seahags have a Ram barbecue.

Da Bears cutler a rug at Lambeau Field.

Dem Pats hogtie TO and the Buffalo he rode in on.

Lightning strikes the Raiders over and over again in Diego.

And, of course... my Boys will tune up for Miami's Super Bowl XLIV at Tampa.

Now, you can take these picks to the bank... but just don't bet the farm on it!
