German researcher Peter Jäger revealed earlier today that he's named a new Malaysian species of spider after David Bowie the fetchingly titled Heteropoda Davidbowie. But what other animals have been named after famous music stars?

Orectochilus orbisonorum A type of water beetle was named in honour of Roy Orbison in 1998. For those of you that are interested, the beetle is about 5mm long and lives in India. Above is a magnified image of the insect.
Aegrotocatellus jaggeri A species of trilobite, an extinct marine animal with a hard shell, was named after Mick Jagger when a fossil was discovered in 1995.

Ok, this is just cruel! Haven’t they ever heard “Sweet Home Alabama”!! And yet they named a species after Neal that lives in Alabama. Hmph.
