"The Rains Came" finally made it to the top of my Nextlix queue and we watched it last night. I found it notable for a couple things. The most unconvincing portrayal of an Indian I have ever seen (Tyrone Power in dark-face). The healthiest looking portrayal of a bubonic plague victim I have ever seen. Otherwise it was not bad, though I can see why it did not achieve the exalted status of some others made in 1939.

The end is probably what killed it at the box office though — she chooses to follow this cad as he globe trots but they do NOT get married. The Doctor?

I don't know why you call him a cad. He had no dishonorable intentions even after he succomed to her feminine wiles.

She was literally willing to be shipped around like his favorite piece of luggage.

But she had a change of heart at the bitter end. So I still haven't seen Myrna Loy cast as a complete floozy.
