Liquor, an inexplicable need to climb out a fourth-floor window, and a bad idea to use bedsheets as the ladder led to the death of a 52-year-old California woman whose body was found in a New Town condominium parking lot Tuesday.
Harriett Clark's 40-foot fall to the asphalt fractured several of her ribs, which apparently caused her lungs to collapse, Sgt. J.R. Torres said.
Key West Police Department investigators have ruled out foul play in Clark's death at the Sunrise Suites Resort, Torres said Friday.
"Everything appears to be accidental," he said. "It appears she was trying to climb down out the window and fell.
The incident occurred sometime between 1:45 a.m., when family and friends said they last saw her after a night of drinking, and 7:30 a.m., when a security guard found her body in a back lot at 3625 Seaside Drive, reports say.
White bedsheets -- a flat sheet found near her body and a fitted sheet found tied to a hurricane shutter in the window of the room where she was staying -- told the story.
"She tried climbing out of the window for unknown reasons and at some point the sheets gave way," Torres said. "Nobody understands why she chose not to use the door."

I blame “Mythbusters” — they recently showed that you can climb down from a high window using bedsheets that have been tied together.
Tied together presumably by a sober person who knew how to tie knots...
The devil is always in the details, eh?
I was saddened to discover as a child that I couldn’t jump off the roof with an umbrella and fall gently to the earth.
It was then that I realized that not every stunt I see in the movies can be replicated.
Prayers for this woman, but sometimes your common sense has to kick in also.
We had a 6-year old girl try this last year in the county where I live. Apparently she saw someone do it in a movie, hung some bedsheets out the window and fell to her death.
