The son of a terminally ill patient who shot himself dead on a busy ward was jailed yesterday for three years after admitting smuggling the weapon into hospital.
A court heard that Ian Button, 63, had left his doting son Guy with a 'burden that is the stuff of tragedies' after asking him to bring in the Walther PPK handgun to the hospital.
Mr Button senior, a car rental manager, had decided to end his life days after being diagnosed with terminal lung disease. His wife Christine, also 63, was in a care home suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
Their only child, a music teacher and talented tuba player, smuggled the Second World War-era pistol into the ward hidden in a leather bag during a morning visit last October.

Teacher who handed his terminally ill father a Walther PPK pistol to kill himself on busy hospital ward is jailed
What a shame the police felt a need to prosecute in this case. Nobody wins here, all are punished.
Just Damn!
The 0bama administration would merely charge the guy for the bullet.
The UK government:
“We control the horizontal, we control the vertical. Do not try to
adjust your set”.
These people are space aliens. And try to run people’s lives in
a similarly in-human ways.
I’m not if favor of suicide. But when a govermental National Health
System won’t give you sufficient analgesia or other reasonable control
of end-of-life pain...what can you do for a suffering loved one?
The real shame is the Walther PPK didn’t get applied to the derriere of
some liberal UK pol.
In order to give them a personal understanding of what real suffering is. At about the 1-5% level of a terminal patient.
It is a huge sadness. These end-of-life decisions tread a fine line between personal decisions and euthanasia.
Perhaps if somehow, the son could have returned his father home and this was done privately, we wouldn’t be reading about it in the news.
>>”Guy Button had pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited weapon and transferring it to his father”
>>”jailed yesterday for three years...”
Just for the “illegal weapon,” not assisted suicide.
