IMO, the best way to get an affectionate cat is to let the cat pick you - sure worked for these two freeloaders:

They look enough like my Birman, PV, (RIP) that they could be descendants of his littermates. We had him neutered before we knew he was one of 200 in the US, and we mourned the fact that we had none of his offspring.
I still miss that ol’ geezer! He was such an absolute love, and such a smartie! *sigh* I would still have a descendant if I had known...
His hair never matted. I don’t know how that worked but he was a real low-maintenance critter. He weighed 22 pounds!

Why would you want to domesticate something from Peta? *gack*

For those who think cats are aloof and a-social, I can tell you from experience, that the secret is this: raise a few cats from the same litter, with their mother, and you will be rewarded with a bunch of friendly, cuddly, congenial cats with intense loyalties. I wish that were the case. I keep momma and 3 siblings 1 was actually pretty nice, but she died. mamma and the other 2 pretty much act indifferent towards me, I am the food servant. the mamma cat has a real bad attitude anyway she doesnt like her babies that much, they are 4 years old now.

He was 9. Young in cat years, but he had an inoperable brain tumor. :o[
He gave us so much pleasure, and he was one of the smartest cats I’ve ever had! NObody could put one over on him!

The two young ones are very playful and get into all kinds of trouble. The older one, he’s 16+, is mellow and just wants to be hugged and kissed.
I always read your posts and replies and now is my opportunity to tell you that I am so proud of what you do. God Bless You. We need people like you.

We have always had Himalayans. Not long after we had our Melly put to sleep, the vet called to say she had a rescue Himalayan that she thought we might like.
Sammi is beautiful but she is NOT a Himmy, lol, she’s got white feet.

They are precious, Allegra. Congrats.
Have a friend that has a Maine Coon. That is the happiest cat I have ever seen. Real close to humans. He smiles all of the time and will always come up and want to picked up and snuggled.
