Patricia Mauceri who has been on 'One Life to Live' for fourteen years, claims she was fired for objecting to a gay storyline.
She also claims she was fired for...
Free speech story ?
A lawsuit waiting to happen ?
Or none of the above?
Is this like former Miss California Carrie Prejean ?
She signed a contract...
Not surprising. Soap Opera producers are mostly leftists. I watch Days of Our Lives and a few months ago they had the character Sami Brady go to an abortion clinic. Made me wanna hurl
There is considerable pressure applied to actors at all levels to embrace left-wing ideas. If an actor or actress is obviously heterosexual, they will try and force them into homosexual roles for several reasons. First to debase their beliefs, second to humiliate them personally, and third to “paint them into a corner” in the production, to make them appear uncooperative or difficult.
It is just one way to purge conservatives from the cesspool.

pretty much the same. ANd the Union won’t do a damn thing to help her.
If you open your mouth, and it appears you are Right of Lenin, in that biz you’re dead meat.. unless you ALREADY have the name.
I agree.
Very insightful.
Thanks.
I hate this. OLTL is one of the soaps I watch daily, and I wondered why this actress (and her character, Carlotta Vega, who projected a believable moral veneer underscored by her Catholicism) suddenly vanished. In the past week, her character returned, now played by former Miami Vice alum Saundra Santiago, and Santiago is (besides being way too young for the role) the polar opposite of Patricia Mauceri. Chirpy and annoying, and anything but motherly, she was acting all excited to find out her son might be gay. Mauceri’s Carlotta Vega would never have acted like that, she’d have been shocked and very disappointed. Santiago’s portrayal made it seem like she’d just won the lottery. By changing the integrity of the characters, they demean the show, and insult the viewers who have been loyal fans for years. Shame on the producers.
I caught occasional episodes of The Young and The Restless where a similar situation occurred where they changed a character to a homosexual out of the blue that made absolutely no sense, and the actor quit in protest (I believe he was sued for breach of contract). Every time they try to introduce gay storylines, they almost inevitably end up causing problems. They tried a lesbian storyline on All My Children in the past year, but hillariously, they wanted the one to fall in love with a man and the actress (who just won a Daytime Emmy for another role) objected and the whole storyline was botched and never resolved adequately and she left the show - the other actress (playing Erica Kane’s youngest daughter) has been playing a lesbian for years, but the writers/producers similarly keep botching her romances and storylines (as they just did with the recent one). Because a good chunk of soap viewers are women (married housewives, which I am not, I’m male and generally not in their viewing demographic - my former fiancee got me hooked on soaps), most of them don’t really want to see lesbian storylines (and I don’t think they’re all that hot to see gay storylines between men, either). Every time they try to force this stuff in, it’s never a natural flow, always very awkward, and almost always comes off as a political diatribe. Loyal viewers don’t want political diatribes.
I think a soap actor could have a sexual harassment case if the script calls for them engaging in same sex kissing against there will.
In this case I see she is not playing the gay character but objects to her characters reaction to the story.
It’s doesn’t say that refused to say her lines it just says she “objected”. She might have a wrongful termination case.
Y’know, I get the distinctive vibe I may be the only FReeper who consistently watches the soaps. :-P
It’s a story of an employee in the wrong job. Time to move on.
Some of the old ladies must.
My granny never misses um.
Great, now I’m an old lady. The soap addiction I blame on you-know-who.
Well I’m not opposed to watching them myself (my brothers would call me a fag though).
But I don’t want to get locked into to watching 1 or more everyday soaps.
There’s a commercial out for some DVR thing that depicts a man who watches soaps.
You aren’t alone but the male viewership of daytime soaps doesn’t appear to be very vocal.
Well, there’s some, otherwise they’d cast hag females in all the roles so as not to offend their majority female viewership. They have a LOT of hot females (some are on my FReeper page, like GH’s Rebecca Herbst, who is stunning).
Nazanin Boniadi.
Shwing.
They killed off her character in the past year (she caught some fatal disease of the week just as she announced she was getting married), and with little fanfare.
She’ll probably come back from the dead at some point like most of them do.
