Just a comment - Freepers, in general, don’t have much trust for the press - small town or otherwise.
And we, as a rule, also distrust the motives of newbs who have yet to establish a posting and commenting history we can verify.
Most people will read this and think - this is a set up by a reporter or liberal operative looking to do a ‘gotcha’ piece about FR in order to discredit all of us by selective use of quotes and commentary that trace back to only one or two of us.
Suggestion: multiple threads exist on FR with hundreds and thousands of comments. Use the search function - and if you feel the need or desire to contact someone do it publicly in a thread - respect breeds respect - openness breeds trust - newbs, reporters, and especially newbs claiming to be reporters breed neither.

You make a good point but in her defense I would like to go on record to say she knows I frequent Freepers every day and asked me if I thought the Freepers could help her with this article. I told her there are numerous intelligent people here and I thought it would be worth while.
You’ll notice I’ve been around here a while so let me tell you she’s sincere and not a “plant”...she’s my wife!
OK - but the same advice applies - if she is a reporter she should dig - search the archives - see what people have to say and what facts are available readily - then if she desires further explanation she should ask specific questions. A reporter should never ask such a broad question as - “can someone help me one this?” No personal offense meant, but that is weak reporting. Dig, formulate, follow up, repeat.
I will offer her a good source as an olive branch - go to congressman Lungren’s (R-CA3) house page - he has links to full length video of his town hall meetings. He is a lawmaker who HAS read the bill and does understand the implications - she may find something there to enlighten her.
Then she's aware she'll be looked at suspiciously.

Welcome to FR.. I see a lot of folks have responded. You’ll find that most here have read most or all of the bill and have a lot of information. Considering that many in congress have admitted they haven’t even read it, it makes for an ‘interesting’ situation when discussing.
I understand you don’t want to be scooped, but what kind of information / opinions are you interested in? There are so many angles to this, it may help to understand the path you want to take.

The content is pretty much irrelevant once one gets a feel for the scope. The scope is outside the purpose of the federal government.
Beyond that, one can read it solely to see if there are any good ideas that private industry can use, because the federal government certainly can’t and still be within the confines of the constitution.
You make an interesting point and one I’ve not had time to research.
So...
Has anyone ever challenged, in court, the creation of medicare or medicaid? What about the VA health care system?
