Here is a CBS News video report on a Chicago "Cuddle Party," a movement that is supposed to help people gain the benefit of "human touch" through "non-sexual" contact with other people.

Participants must pay $30 to attend, and each person must get verbal permission from another before touching them in any way.

After the report, the anchors talked about it on the set, with one saying they would "never do that with you." Another asked, "Is there ever a buffet?"

They started with free hugs campaigns on street corners during the nice months when all the tourists show up with their kiddies. Now they want cuddle parties. Wonder what is going to be next - reports that coworkers “group sleeping” together will make a better work environment, encourage team attitudes etc. Yep whole world will come into a time of peace, harmony when we all just start embracing each other more, embrace the spirits that are within us all, surround ourselves and feel da love....and don't forget to bring your favorite pet...snakes especially beneficial.

I hug a lot of people at certain parties. They’re called FAMILY REUNIONS.

Actually I have been to one and rather enjoyed it. Frankly I did not enjoy hugging other males so I didn’t. But I enjoyed hugging the others. Just be careful who you party with as always and you might enjoy.

Watching the video, they all seem to be straight people.

It appeared to be all straight singles / couples and this went on inside a private home, and the rules seemed restrictive enough to prevent any craziness from breaking out.

I think it would be kind of funny to suggest this at work when they ask for suggestions on how to improve morale...

Recently at a convention I saw a sign up that forbade “Free Hugs”. I still don’t understand why. Is there a hug epidemic?

Perhaps its a sub-optimal idea in this era of the swine flu?

Not an epidemic, but there is a campaign:

Free Hugs Campaign

Personally, I think as long as they ask first, I don't think it's a problem. Just say no (or "I have a cold.") if you don't want to hug the person.

Of course someone coming up to someone else they don't know and giving a hug without asking first would be a problem.

Maybe some guys are using the Free Hugs thing to take advantage to go up to nice looking ladies and then say "I was just giving her a free hug"?

Although after they do it to someone who stomps on their instep and gives them an elbow in the ribs or a heel strike to their nose they'll probably be more considerate of other people's personal space afterwards.

I personally don't like these general bans that restrict people from having fun or doing what they chose to do, even if it's not most people's thing.

It is a dry run orgy and the Lord ain’t got that on His list of things that we are to do - He has sent fire from Heaven, destroys nations etc for sexual immorality. He said pick one of the opposite sex, be faithful, keep eyes, hands off what’s not yours.
