Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
1995 - Junior year at Nebraska, Phillips was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Kate McEwen, a basketball player for the Nebraska women's team. The report included testimony that he dragged her by her hair down multiple flights of stairs along with beating her up. Tom Osborne didn't kick him off the team or even suspend him for the rest of the season, he game him a slap on the wrist by sitting him on the bench for a game or two, and made sure he would play the last three games of the season, and start for them in the Feista Bowl/National Championship.
1997- Pleaded no contest to assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Miami.
On August 21, 2005, Phillips was arrested for assault after allegedly driving a car into three teenagers, following a dispute with the teens during a pick-up football game in Los Angeles, California. At the time of the arrest, Phillips was wanted by the San Diego, California, police in connection with two alleged domestic abuse incidents involving a former girlfriend, who claimed that Phillips choked her to the point of unconsciousness during one of the incidents. In addition, the Los Angeles Police Department was seeking Phillips in connection with yet another, separate domestic abuse allegation that had occurred previously in Los Angeles.
In March, 2006, the Phillips was ordered to stand trial on felony assault with a deadly weapon charges stemming from the August 21, 2005, incident. The assigned judge dismissed two counts of child abuse and one count of leaving the scene of an accident, but continued the trial on the more serious charges.
On October 10, 2006, Phillips was found guilty of seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon. On October 3, 2008, Phillips was sentenced to 10 years in a California state prison.
On August 12th 2009, A Superior Court jury took less than a day to find Phillips guilty of seven counts, including assault with great bodily injury; false imprisonment; making a criminal threat; and auto theft. He had been accused of choking his girlfriend on two occasions in August 2005, once into unconsciousness. He faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 8.
I got the exact speech from my coach, for the same reason. Some of the fans were a bit over-zealous. They would throw things at you as you walked on/off the field....and that was if you lost. Heaven help you if you went to someone’s home field and won. One place we played had tshirts that said “Football isn’t religion....it’s more important than that”
Blount has been cut for the season. Should be kicked off entirely IMO.
I heard a sports talk radio person complaining this morning that the “blonde” guy didn’t get some discipline.
I don’t know...Blount still started the whole thing with his “owe them an ass-whipping” comment.
My bet is that the “blonde” guy was just saying to Blount:
“Hey, how about the ass-whipping you just gave us?”
Maybe the Boise player should be disciplined for trash talk...maybe they ALL should.
I still think he’s just and idiot, he had a huge NFL contract and could be wealthy and set living a pampered life but he just can’t control his personal life
1997 I might add that he was gone from the Cornhuskers so you cant blame things that happened after his stint at Nebraska on Tom Osbourne.
It is widely known in Nebraska that Kate McEwen was also dating Scott Frost. Yes the same Scott Frost that escorted the Oregon player off the field yesterday.
Now there is a Kevin Bacon moment for you !
I don’t deny that Lawrence Phillips should have been dismissed from the team. Not one bit.
