Bullett's bed and towel were in the kitchen Wednesday afternoon, his toys were scattered about the house as if awaiting his return.
But the 8-pound, 8-ounce black toy poodle won't return.
He was killed Sunday by pit bulls in the second violent animal cruelty case reported to Beaumont police in a week.
"I loved my little baby," Ida Scott, 74, said at her Beaumont home, where she has lived for 45 years.
Bullett was a Mother's Day present six years ago from her daughter-in-law, and since then, everyone had grown to love the little curly-haired dog who met visitors at the door and was known as "Uncle Bullett" or "Brother" by Scott's many family members.
Scott's husband, Andrew J. Scott, is ill. He requires regular dialysis treatments and is in and out of the hospital, she said.
"Bullett was just about what keeps him alive," Scott's sister, Virginia Hardin, said. "He sleeps at the foot of my brother-in-law's bed. When he was in the hospital, he would talk to (Bullett) over the phone.
Sunday morning, a witness told police that a man took the poodle and tossed him to two pit bulls chained at a residence at the corner of Johnson and Bethlehem streets, Beaumont Police Officer Crystal Holmes said.
The witness said the man watched as the pit bulls attacked, Holmes said.
Juston Lee Bruno, 30, of Beaumont was arrested shortly after the attack and charged with state jail felony animal cruelty, according to police reports.
If convicted, he faces between 180 days and two years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
Bruno is out on a $25,000 bond, Holmes said.
That’s disgusting!
Sick.
Throw Bruno to the pit bulls!!
Let's let the pit bulls get hungry for a few days and then throw Bruno to them.
I hope they eat his gonads and eyes first.
I don’t particularly like poodles. The person who did this should receive the harshest punishment possible (not just what is allowed by law).
This world just gets sicker and sicker. If it’s not kiling the unborn, it’s killing something else that can’t fight back. Children, beloved pets. I want stronger punishments for these sick people.
Stay the course Chet...I know you are taking massive heat but you are on the correct side of this issue!
People like this are just prepping to one day do the same sick kinds of things to other people.
That’s why we cannot tolerate these people. They are SHOWING US THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS. They get off on another living thing’s torture and gruesome deaths.
Only a matter of time. Next time, a little kid. There are monsters out there. Sad fact is you get people out there upset at us because “it isn’t a person”. We’re saying “that’s what these kinds of people will do next!” Get on board now with us before it happens.
Sociopath is as sociopath does. One bullet in the head, one in the heart. Take care of that nasty Dahmer streak good and fast.
Why? This monster deliberately traumatized an elderly couple by stealing their beloved little dog and throwing it to some pit bulls for "fun". He doesn't give a crap how much pain he causes to people or animals, and he is therefore dangerous and has no business being loose in free society.
This perp is 30 years old. I’d estimate there’s zero probability that he hasn’t already committed violent acts on children and women, and probably men, on multiple occasions.
damn right, hang in there chet!
180 days in jail is not enough for someone who’d do something like that. It shows some underlying tendencies that suggest this is an extremely dangerous person to humans as well.
