Can you get JHPs in that caliber, or only milsurp ball? Pretty puny round, isn’t it?

Can’t you get a conversion barrel for .380, to use somewhat better defensive ammo?

Travis,

I got a 500 round case of 94 grain Russian Silver Bear JHP for $125.00 plus shipping. The Wolf FMJ stuff is about 10 bucks cheaper.

As far as power goes it's above a .380 but not quite as much whomp in it as the 9X19. Since this pistol is also chambered in .380 AND 7.62 Browning (the CZ-83) I would hazard the guess that conversion kits are floating around out there somewhere.

I'm going to be doing some testing on the pistol/ammo combination in the next couple of weeks and I'll toss a review of it your way. It won't be ballistic gelatin lab quality, more of a improvised milk jug and drywall kind of a thing.

But it should give some fairly useful data.

The way I look at it is this:

It got a decent quality, proven service pistol, a holster, cleaning rod, spare mags and a case of ammo delivered to my door for less than $500. While this for damn sure ain't a Kimber I file it under "Way Better Than Nothing When TSHTF".

I'm going to clean it up, test fire it as described, then case it up and toss it in the Camelback that stays under the seat in my truck. Once I'm satisfied it's reliable enough I'll order one for Mrs. L and stash it in HER Camelback.

If some over-anxious cop decides to 'take' it for some reason we won't be crying about them the way we would our Springfields or S&W's.

That's the logic anyway.

Hey, that’s perfect logic. Let me know if you find any hollow points. I had to do a little searching to find out Wolf makes JHPs for 7.62X25 Tokarev.

Thanks for the info. I’ll google one or two of those up and give it a try. Hell Mrs. L loves it when I spray paint!

94 grain JHP available here for a decent price.

I would have gotten those Toks but Mrs. L has an issue with autoloaders that 'bark' quite that much. Funny, she doesn't have any problem with a .44 mag but I suspect that's because a Model 29 is a bit more substantial than a lightweight semi-auto pistol so it soaks up the recoil better. Plus she just likes shiny guns.

And who am I to argue with the lovely and talented Mrs. L?

Wish we lived closer together. I'd pack this thing up and meet you someplace so you could wring it out yourself.

Pretty puny round, isn’t it?

Well it ain't a 9MM +P++, that's for sure. From what I've been able to scrounge on the web it's superior to the .380 (not saying much, I know) and very roughly comparable to a sedate .38 Spl. Note the use of 'very roughly'. The 95 grain JHP moves just a hair under 1000 fps from what I've read, but I'm going to Chrono the Silver Bear stuff when I get a chance.

Since the barrel on the 82 is pinned and fixed I imagine it would take a bit of work to convert it to .380 although a quick Google search says that it can be done.

But since I've found a source for what seems to be cheap, plentiful JHP rounds I don't think I'll do it.

What I am going to do is get a couple of those DuraCoat kits Squantos turned me on to. Mrs. L's is going to be redone in a nice shade of pink or purple while mine is going to get a somewhat different color choice.

I'll do a full review of this thing once I get a chance to make it go 'bang' someplace they'll let me set up my Mad Gun Scientist Equipment.

Take care.

As long as there are JHPs for it, it’s perfect for its niche in its price range! Milsurp for practice, JHPs for carry, good to go.

My few makarov house an shop spare guns are loaded with glaser safety slugs. Silver or Blue grade beats JHP for that caliber on soft mouth breathing bottom feeders.

FYI that is IMO best load for 9x18.

Now that said also consider treating these old surplus gems with Militec1 or something 300 turned us on to....nanolube.

My rare double stack makarov is as slick as my custom clarke meltdown 1911A1 after the Militec1 process.

CZ82 project is ON !

Stay Safe !!!
