I presume you’ve seen Travis’ Public Service Announcements.

Yes - that’s the source of my interest. I’m thinking it’s just the ticket as part of a fallback position inventory. Along with one of my Ishapore Enfield No1 MkIIIs in 308. That’s the rifle you use to get a better rifle.

An Oly Arms CAR 15 and my customary carry (SIG 229 in .40) works as part of my always-handy 72 hour kit.

No1 MkIII in 308? Wouldn't that actually be a 2A?

Some would consider the concept of "better than an Enfield" to be sacrilege. ;-)

Depending on the nature of your "fallback position", this may be of interest:

Can't help you with a source for the 52, but that page has the Tokarev TT-33 for about $200.

7.62 X 25 ammo; 1200 rounds for less than $140. That's going to be next month. LOL.

Getting my C&R was a pretty good decision I think.

I’ve always figured that if it was time to bury them, it was pretty much time to dig them up.

That’s a legitimate line of thought.

In detail, one might turn in what they know you’ve got, then dig up the ones they don’t know you have.

I picked up a couple of those Ishapore Enfields back when they were $120 a piece for a 'hand selected' example. Brit Mil-Surp 7.62 was going for around $200 a thousand.

Those are some sweet shooting rifles. I haven't found the outside edge of its range yet as the longest I've had the opportunity to shoot it is 300 yards.

But inside that, every shot's a winner.

I wish I'd bought half a dozen of them.

Yep - it’s a 2A, all right. Even found a scope mount for one, courtesy of a very good friend of mine. 12 round mags, too. 600 yard hits, no problem.

I believe Squantos also has “one or more” of them, and speaks highly of them also.

Too bad there doesn’t seem to be anymore of them available at those prices.

Nor sadly is that Brit Mil-Surp ammo. What I do have is the brass, a few thousand CCI hard primers, and loads and loads of the Sierra Match bullets. I was buying them back when they were 28 bucks a hundred. Can’t find them for any price these days.

Those Barnes Copper Solids are a wicked projectile for that caliber, too. They penetrate like nobody’s business and at 2650 fps they open up like a mushroom every time.

You are a wealthy man. I’ll check out the Barnes stuff. Fortunately, back in the last decade, I managed to pick up a quantity of 165 grain 3006 AP pulls. Mild steel cores. Works fine in .308 cases if you seat them deeply enough.

Also bought some Lake City 3006 black tip while they were still available. My Garand has what it needs to perform its duty. All I have to do is to do mine.

When I did my CMP shoot back in the day I used a borrowed Garand and Club ammo. It was all black tipped Mil Surp -06. When I finished qualifying I asked if they had any 'extra'.

The guy pulled a couple of bandoliers from a case and handed them to me. "Have fun." was all he said. I don't have a rifle chambered for that cartridge, but I figure I can use the bullets.

If the Sales Gods smile upon me, I can pick up the Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 I just found out is on the market. That'd be a nice match for that ammo. Don't you think?

Check out those TT-33's I told you about. While they ain't as pretty as the 52's, they're kind of like the Cougar at the bar at 2 AM. Meaning, they're available right now and they're cheap.

In this case that isn't a bad thing at all.

I got 40 rounds a couple of years ago, can’t remember if I paid $20 or $40 for the batch.

I figure one way or another that’s a lifetime supply.

Seriously?! That’s gotta be a handful.

Been reading some of the “Earl Swagger” books (”Hot Springs”) and some of the W.E.B. Griffin books and they spend a lot of time talking about how only a few folks can handle the Thompson .45, much less this’n...

BTW, do you live in Huntsville? I’ve got a LOT of kin there...and in Coldspring/Old Waverly.

Used to live in Conroe, myself.

Yes, I live in Huntsville.
I have been lived here since 1988.

I often travel through New Waverly but have only seen signs
about Old Waverly Cemetery.

Coldspring was where I got married.
I lived on the Fostoria Tram road when I joined the Army.
When I got my first leave, Fostoria was no longer there.
The sawmill owned every building in the town.
The people went on strike so the Company had all of the
buildings torn down or moved off their land.

I’ve got kin that’s been there since the 1800’s. The Browders and the Hardys are my kin.

Hardy’s Furniture store (owned by Norman Ward, son in law of a Hardy) are kin of mine. I think they changed the name to Ward’s Furniture.

My dad sits on the board of the Waverly Cemetery Association. I helped them put together a little ole website. He’s trying to convince me to take his place on the board.

We’ll all wind up (finally) in that cemetery.

I went to school for a year at Sam.

That’s good country; they’re good folk.

I live on the water on Padre Island outside of Corpus; fish all the time.

But I miss that part of Texas.

So my CZ-82 arrived today from that dealer I shared with you in the link above. Other than some good honest holster wear it's damn near pristine.

Fit on the piece is very good, the finish of course is that cheap black ComBlock paint stuff. It arrived at my door exactly 5 business days after I ordered it so I'm giving the vendor in question high marks for their service.

The holster they included is one made by CZ as indicated by the stamp on the back. It's not one of those cheap canvas ones you see from other vendors. It's well made although it's stamped for the 75/85 series. It'd serve well for open carry in a State that allowed that sort of thing.

The bore is clean and bright. I doubt this thing has had more than a couple of hundred rounds put through it.

It required a serious cleaning as it was literally dripping with oil. I couldn't find a trace of Cosmoline, however so that's nice.

The spare mags I ordered all slide in easily and drop free even when partially loaded. The controls are all ambidextrious and I can manipulate them with no problem.

At some point I may send it out to have the paint stripped and a decent Parkerizing job. Believe it or not the ammo I ordered arrived on a different UPS truck a couple of hours after the pistol hit my door. Anyone reading should be aware that this pistol is chambered for the 9 X 18 Makarov cartridge, NOT the 9MM Luger. The two are NOT, repeat NOT interchangeable. The upside of the ammo thing is that my vendor is selling a 500 round CASE of Russian Bear brand HP ammo (94 grain) for $125 US.

Bottom line is I got what I believe to be a very serviceable sidearm, a decent holster, 3 magazines, and a case of ammo delivered to my door for less than $450.00.

You can't beat that with a stick.

I'll let you know how well this sucker shoots, but I'm expecting good things. Hell, it's a CZ. How bad could it be? The Czech gunmakers were one of the only Warsaw Pact countries who could tell the Soviets to kiss their ***** when it came to arms making.

I'm going to order two more of these bad boys tomorrow along with another 10 mags and another case of ammo.

If nothing else they'll go into the 'Rainy Day Kits' I've been building.

Best to all,

L
