“The mono masters from that 1964 album have since been lost or misplaced, and even if they were found, they dont contain the various tracks from which to create stereo recordings.... The story of how John came to possess the tapes is murky at best.”
Things that wind up in other peoples hands are not “misplaced”.
Huh......and Jimi said we would never hear surf music again.....
My wife’s best friend used to be married to Dennis Wilson, and has 2 sons from him. A few years ago she gave me some tapes of unrecorded Dennis Wilson stuff... wish I could find those things now... in some box somewhere.
Incredible that after 45 years the tapes had not melted down. I wonder if they were in an air onditioned house.
What a dpressing past for the Wilsons and the rest of the band. Brian’s old man was a mean piece of work.
Hope he knows that those reel to reel tapes have to be baked before they are played.
And yes, I mean baked, as in put in the oven.

“God Only Knows” is really good. That song makes me sad.
Great story! Thanks for posting this. I was one of those teenagers who bought every new Beach Boys 45 when it came out. Still have them.
