Moscow mayor would banish snow

The fabled beauty of the Kremlin's golden onion domes dusted with winter snow may be a thing of the past under a scheme by the Moscow mayor, reported by newspapers Thursday, to banish snow from the capital.

"Why don't we keep this snow outside the Moscow city limits?" the Izvestia and Gazeta dailies quoted Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who has a well-established track record of micro-managing Moscow's weather, as saying this week.

"For the countryside, this means more moisture and bigger harvests. And for us -- less snow," Luzhkov said, recalling that Moscow already relies on special cloud-seeding techniques to guarantee clear skies on key holidays.

Under Luzhkov's proposal, the skies would be cleared whenever snow-laden clouds -- a regular and natural feature of the Moscow winter cityscape -- approached the sprawling Russian metropolis.

The mayor said preventing snowfall in Moscow would offer advantages to city residents, including significant cost savings since operations to clear snow from streets cost three times more than stopping snowfall altogether.

Cloud-sweeping operations over Moscow however often produce heavy precipitation in outlying areas, and experts said the plan was fraught with unpredictable consequences.

Izvestia said the Luzhkov winter weather initiative had sparked "panic" in some areas outside the Russian capital.

“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” (Daniel 7:25, KJV) In this passage we are told that the Antichrist will think or try “to change the times and the laws.” He may not successfully achieve this result, however, he will surely attempt to do so. The most perplexing statement is that he will “think to change the times.” Just how is this possible and what could it mean? The Aramaic word which is translated as “time” in this verse is “zeman.” A better fitting translation would more point to the idea of seasons and periods.

I am NOT suggesting the Mayor of Moscow is the Antichrist, only that things seem to be lining up and getting ready for the revealing of the man of perdition. Who would have guessed, just a few years ago, that politicians would seriously consider stopping unfavorable weather?

Well, why not?

The 0ne guaranteed that he would reduce ocean levels if elected.

And we've had a cooler than normal Summer. So I guess his unicorn magic is working.

I think the article is satire — but maybe not!

Don’t think so. Russia has been firing rockets which disperse chemicals to reduce snowfall and, especially rain, for many years now.
I remember they hosted some huge rock festival in 1989 with a bunch of american and european bands right as the USSR was breaking apart, and they fired a bunch of these into the sky around the festival to make sure there was 0 rain because it was being broadcast via PPV worldwide. I remember seeing interviews with some of the performers who were in total fear of breathing in the air around there because that. Then again, we are talking about bands like Ozzy and Motley Crue, and I’m sure they have inhaled, snorted, or injected worse things in their lives........
