Sources: Marshall interest at issue
By Ed Werder ESPN
The Denver Broncos are carefully monitoring any public comments made by the New York Jets that might indicate the team is tampering with suspended receiver Brandon Marshall, sources said Wednesday.
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels has consistently stated the team intends for Marshall, who wants either a new contract or a trade, to play for Denver this season. On Friday, Denver suspended Marshall through Sept. 5 for "detrimental" conduct.
The Broncos want Marshall to accept playing for them as the only outcome so that he will conform his behavior. The concern for the Broncos is those attempts could be undermined if the brooding Pro Bowl player becomes convinced a trade is possible.
Citing a source, Newsday reported on Wednesday that the Jets are "seriously considering" making a play for Marshall soon.
There has been no contact between the Broncos and the Jets as of Wednesday morning, sources said.
McDaniels has not singled out a specific episode, but said Marshall's suspension resulted from a series of incidents. At a recent practice, Marshall went out during pre-practice warm-ups and walked while the rest of the team ran. He punted a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy, and swatted a pass thrown to him. His actions were caught on video and broadcast by KMGH-TV.

I am SO glad I didn’t buy the HDTV Hubby and I were considering buying earlier this summer. It’s going to be painful enough watching my Broncos this year, without having every excruciating detail in high def.
The Jets are innocent!
And QB Sanchez needs another guy to throw to. lol
What is the local feeling on Josh McDaniel?
The NFL has got to tighten up whatever rules they have on players and their responsibilities to their teams.
Marshall wants out of Denver, proclaims so publicly, which cripples the Broncos chances of a fair trade.
He gets ‘rewarded’ by going to another team, and Denver gets hosed for at least a season.
But, but... I thought only New England and Coach Belichick were cheaters!
They are!.........everyone else are business-people........ : ^)
If the Broncos want to rebuild from the ground up so much that they traded Cutler they should trade this childish clown as well. Just my $0.02.
The feeling will not be good after the disasterous season ahead. I anticipate calls for a new coach about mid season. Perhaps if the Broncos sink to the bottom, a new draft will revitalize them.
No. Just the most prolific.
I fall somewhere in the middle. We had NO defense last year, and Cutler certainly needed to mature, although he has tremendous potential. I thought Bowlen would have given Shanahan one more year to turn things around because of all the injuries (7 starting RBs), but when Shanny refused to make any changes in defensive coaching, Bowlen was well within his rights. I think McDaniel's ego is going to be his undoing, if he can't learn to control it. It certainly didn't help in his handling of the Cutler situation. When you're Bill Parcels, you can have a colossal ego, you've earned it. When all you've ever been is Bill Belicheck’s yes man, not so much. He seems to have issues with defining himself. He spent a lot of time (the Cutler situation) trying to be the “not-Shanahan.” If you look at the way he dresses and the players he “has to have,” he's channeling Belicheck. That kind of insecurity and inability to adapt doesn't bode well for being able to lead. Given what I've seen in preseason, the tough schedule we have, and the lack of trust the team has in Skippy, I'd say we'll be lucky to win 4 games.
He handled the Cutler situation disasterously and it will haunt him. On Sunday Night Rodney Harrison was being interviewed by Chris Collingsworth and eviscerated McDaniels for how he handled the Cutler situation. Harrison said that it was all about McDaniels attempting to get his friend Matt Cassell from New England. Harrison said, that the Cutler trade would haunt McDaniel's tenure at Denver.Brandon Marshall is an extension of that leadership.
For the most part the 850KOA crowd (radio station that has the coaches show and broadcast rights) is caught between the Scylla of McDaniel's closed mouth inability to communicate what his team is doing and is about and the Charybdis of promoting the team as the official station of the Bronco's.
Me. I don't have any such quandary. McDaniels has character issues and needs to go. Broncos will go 5 - 11 this year and maybe as bad as 3 - 13.

I agree about the inability to communicate what the team is doing and is about. I watched McDaniels’ post game interview after Sunday’s loss to the Bears. All he could say was “We need to get better in a lot of areas.” If I’d been a reporter, I’d have said, “Ok, numbnuts, you’re the coach, just HOW do you propose to do that? What is the plan for getting better? Let’s have the details.” Don’t just spout platitudes. Grrrrr.
As a seahawks fan whose team owns Denver’s 2010 1st round pick, I approve of the Jets action.
When they traded Cutler, I believed we were looking at a pick somewhere from 7th to 12th, but now I think we are looking at a Top 5 pick as Denver’s 2009 season is heading towards a cliff at lightspeed.
Seahawks could land a player like Russell Okung, Ndamukong Suh, Colt McCoy, or Taylor Mays.
Sam Bradford will probably be taken with the #1 pick by the Rams, but Colt McCoy would look great in Seahawk blue being groomed to takeover for Hasselbeck when he retires.
Thank you Denver!!!! Keep up the dysfunction and drama.
Well, McDaniels does come from that tradition. He seems to want to recreate Patriots west. Why shouldn't he bring all the bells, whistle and baggage?
