Video: WSJ’s James Taranto: Cheney for President in 2012 (on MSNBC with Contessa Brewer)

"As inconceivable as it may seem today, the 2012 election may end up turning on national security. Republicans would be wise to nominate someone with both toughness and experience. Under such circumstances, it's hard to think of a better candidate--assuming, of course, that he could be persuaded to run--than Richard B. Cheney."

While I am a die hard Palin supporter, I would vote for Mr. Cheney as fast as I possibly could.

I love Dick Cheney. But no, not for President. Not now.

Let’s not spend another cycle of being the party that nominates the “angry, old white man.” (their words, not mine)

Get Cheney in front of every working microphone in the country. But don’t nominate him.

He'll never run, but I'd love to see the liberals eyeballs fry for the next 3 years when they think he's going to run.

Cheney can bring attention to real issues, while taking the heat away from the eventual GOP nominee.

I’d vote and work for Cheney with great joy.

I am concerned about his health, though.

I would work incredibly hard to elect Dick Cheney President. I cant think of a better Republican - the antithesis of Hussein Obama. Dick Cheney would be a magnificent president.

If he only didn’t have a heart that was held together with duct tape and glue, he very well may be President today. As it is, I have serious reservations if his body could withstand the stress of a presidential campaign.

Yeah, but there is how Sarah Palin can help him as VP.

Ditto that. But I think he’d be one of the best presidents we ever had. You can’t fault his experience.

I doubt he’d run. If he did I’d work and vote for him, no problem! Cheney would and could clean up the mess that’s being caused by this current pissant.

I keep saying, the right person for 2012 is the one who’s in the fight right now.

Cheney just joined and now heads the short list.

Cheney for President.
Is the war on terror really over? If not, he may be the best man to lead it.

I have fantasies about a real tough-as-nails intellectual and a lady for 1st Lady. Lynn Cheney.
The one and only time I met her was at my first Lincoln Day dinner when we were in Cheyenne. I took my brand new 2LT daughter (now Major with 2 years in the sandbox) with me, and Mrs. Cheney was incredibly gracious to her.
