A Swiss man has set a world record for the highest tightrope walk ever. He accomplished the feat in Germany with no harness or safety nets to catch him.
Swiss tightrope walker Freddy Nock has walked along a tram cable in Germany's tallest mountain without a harness and safety nets that will catch him if he falls to set a new world record for the stunt.
At 9,655 feet high in Zugspitze mountain, it was the highest tightrope walk ever made. Nock walked along 3,264 feet of inclined cable and reached the tram station in 50 minutes on Sunday. The ground was 426 feet below him.
Nock started the world record attempt Saturday but postponed it due to bad weather. About 1,800 people watched him tightrope walk on Sunday.
The event was at the time a charity event. Nock raised $18,617 in donations for the feat.

I take it that’s height above sea level, not height above the ground.
Why is it that everyone who experiences 15 minutes of fame insists on flashing the “peace sign”? Unless of course he meant to convey Churchill’s “V” for victory.
“The ground was 426 feet below him.”
That’s a lot less than the guy who walked between the twin towers.
Suggestion - set up a cable about 6 inches above the parking lot at the top of Pike’s Peak, and set a new world record.
Interesting. Just watched a documentary about a French guy who walked a cable between the WTC towers back in early 1970’s. Don’t know why anyone would want to do that.
I saw Teddy once trying not to stagger across the Senate floor. That was a pretty damn high tight rope walk.
50 feet, 100 feet, 1000 feet. It does not matter --- you're dead if you slip.
It's like swimming. If the water is above your nose, it don't matter how deep it is.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Exactly. Very misleading since the highest rope walk I have ever heard of was back in the seventies when some French guy walked a wire between the Twin Towers. Now length-wise this guy did quite the feat. I also presume that the cable was on a small decline so that might have helped a little.
Lol!
Just WOW!
Whoops. After seeing the video he was going both down and up.
Just noticed at the end of the vid directly on youtube that this was the longest unassisted tightrope walk.

“Dont know why anyone would want to do that.”
Depending on your age you may remember that there were a flurry of these type of events back in the 70’s with people climbing on stuff or doing spectacular and, I might add, illegal things.
Mostly, I think these people just wanted to become famous and it gave them a venue.
