Frigid 2010 Forecast: How Cold will the Winter Weather Be?
Farmers Almanac ^

Posted on 08/31/2009 3:33:34 PM PDT by Lorianne

Old Man Winter doesn’t want to give up his frigid hold just yet, but his hold will mostly be in the middle of the country.

According to the 2010 Farmers’ Almanac, this winter will see more days of shivery conditions: a winter during which temperatures will average below normal for about three-quarters of the nation.

A large area of numbingly cold temperatures will predominate from roughly east of the Continental Divide to west of the Appalachians (see map). The coldest temperatures will be over the northern Great Lakes and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. But acting almost like the bread of a sandwich, to this swath of unseasonable cold will be two regions with temperatures that will average closer to normal—theWest Coast and the East Coast.

How do you tell if you get less soot? Do you take your smoke pipe apart and look in it?

If you are old enough to remember the last time it rained in California, you might take note of this:

This the Navy's Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly Plot. In the fall, winter and of 2004 and 2005, the surface temp anomalies along the Kaleephornya Koast were very warm....relatively speaking and it rained and rained.

I'm not a meteorologist and I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Take this and $4.00 to Starbucks and see what you get.

Yes, I’m afraid summer sucked in 2009. 2008 wasn’t too good either. One nice thing about the cool weather we’ve had for, well, since 2007, is that it has minimized the recurrence of the crap about how it’s not the heat it’s the humidity. That’s one of the dopiest cliches in the history of language, IMHO.

It’s not so much the cold, as it is the damp air. :)

We Spring fertilized as usual. But we never did put down the Summer fertilizer; it wasn’t needed. With all the rain we’ve had, the grass is as green and growing as could be. We’ll put down Winter fertilizer this month, but that’s all.

I get my chimney cleaned twice a year. It is a habit that I started with the airtight stove. My sweep has told me that I can back off to once a year. With the airtight stove, I would have a ton of soot just in the stove pipe, now there is minimal soot in the stove pipe and the chimney.

And yes, I do look when the sweep comes out, I want to see how much build up I am getting because it is a serious fire hazzard.
