"What Does the Country Owe me? (Just my thoughts)

With all the talk of Health Care Reform that has been going on lately, the one question that I have been asking myself lately is, “What does my country owe me?” Before I answer that question I would like to first, and, very briefly explain my background. I grew up in Long Island, NY. At 12 years old my father left the family and my mother subsequently could not afford the mortgage and our house was auctioned off. At that point, what did my country owe me? My mother and I moved in with a family friend. I wasn’t the best kid growing up and was starting to become a bad influence on the son of the friend that we moved in with. I was told that I either needed to change or leave. Of course being a stubborn kid, I left. What did my country owe me at that point? I went on to live with different friends, sleep in my car and on the occasional nice night, I would sleep on a bench. What did my country owe me? In 12th grade I was finally kicked out of school. What did my country owe me then? My Uncle sat me down one day and basically told how much of a punk I was, threw me in his car, and drove me to the recruiting office for the United States Air Force. My Uncle saved my life, and also answered that question, “What does my country owe me?” The answer was absolutely nothing. This country was set up in such a way that everyone in it has the same right… The right to “Pursue Happiness.” What a great freedom that is, if your motivated enough to take up the challenge in going after what you want, and not just motivating yourself to put your beer down and go pick up your welfare check, as I’ve seen so many of my friends families do during many stays with different people. My mother never went to get government assistance, which she certainly would have qualified for by government standards. She persevered and picked herself back up and got what she wanted through hard work. Hard work used to be the back bone of this country, but apparently the democrats believe that they can just hand everything to us and have us live in a Utopian society.

I now have a good job, two beautiful kids and what I feel is a pretty good life, THIS government didn’t do anything to help me get here. The government that was set up by the Fathers of this Nation is the government that helped me get to this point, and is the government that we need back. I served in the military for 8 years; those were the proudest 8 years of my life. I owe God and my country, for the chances that I have had. The only way I can think of honoring both is by not just sitting by and letting my country get taken over by this government. We need to get our voices out there, as we have been doing at the town hall meetings. I love this country, I love the true conservatives, and I believe that God will honor or fight to keep our freedom.

Wow! Thank you! I hope you don’t mind if I forward your story on to my boys.

You are correct, we need to keep on keeping on! We aren’t letting America go down without a fight!

The Govt only needs to protect the person and property from illegal seizure, and the sanctity of contracts among free individuals.

That is ALL.

country doesn’t owe me squat... i just want it to leave me the hell alone

i am in the vilified, evil 5% crowd... and getting a 30% increase in taxes along with a swift kick in the nutz is not something i relish... and the best way to defeat these bastards would be to reduce the capacity to effect ‘change’... which would relate directly to their funding.

ie: taxes

Nice letter, adn I agree 100%. All the government owes me is a chance to make it. I don’t want them interfering, and they don’t have the right to interfere. Any government interference is tyrrany of some sort.
