This desire for relevance is God given.
That relevance is to be attained in your relationship with God.

Leftists reject this natural means of relevance and seek other, earthly, means of relevance - social activism & radical environmentalism are two of these outlets.

I think that is very true for most people, as it is that relationship that gives one's life context and meaning. The quality of all other personal relationships naturally flow from it. For that reason, I think we have today's sad spectacle of angry, lonely, isolated people searching for "meaning" and finding only more emptiness in the effort.

That said, even people who are not particularly religious may find significant meaning by understanding their fundamental nature as human beings, by using their powers of reason to accept the world as it exists and act upon it in ways that respect the same rights of others. This also implies the acceptance of personal responsibilities proper to the life of a rational being, among them: independence rather than dependency; honesty and fairness in dealing with others; and an insistence upon voluntary trade rather than coercion.

I believe personal relevance may also be achieved by a life lived in a such a manner, and yet, even the most libertarian sorts will in some unguarded moment turn their eyes heavenwards and wonder what organizing force made this world possible.
