This isn't an accusation from Ted Kennedy's political opponents, but a nostalgic remembrance by one of his friends. Ed Klein, former Newsweek editor, tells the Diane Rehm Show:
"I dont know if you know this or not, but one of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick? That is just the most amazing thing. Its not that he didnt feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too."

Did Chris Dodd squeeze in one last “waitress sandwich” with Teddy at the funeral?

This expresses exactly what you thought about him - a man of privilege, and arrogant, reckless fellow who always knew his father’s clout or his family’s money would clean up after him.
To: Wally_Kalbacken
exactly
His FIRST REACTION was to hide the death of Kopechne (therby making it murder because she was still alive) and try to find someone to take the blame and cover it up
It was as if he had years of practice

Despite what people are saying these days on TV, I don't think Teddy ever had any remorse for the killing of Mary Jo, and he died feeling no remorse for her death. Ted is a monster. A demon who should be cast into Hell.
(There, I said it Bill O'Reilly! Choke on it!)

Rush mentioned, this morning that someone on the Huffington Post made the statement that Mary Jo Kopechne might have said something about it being worth her death to see the great man that Ted Kennedy turned into.
My husband made a similar comment after reading the Michael Kelley article, "A sober look at Senator Kennedy." My husband said that Mary Jo didn't die in vain, she died to keep Ted Kennedy out of the White house.

So which is worse: that Ted Kennedy joked about Chappaquiddick, or the fact that Ed Klein thinks that Chappaquiddick jokes are something to glowingly reminisce over?

LOL! Also, I have yet to read about the differences between Teddy and his father Joe. I thought Joe Kennedy was the ultimate Capitalist.
Teddy was the ultimate LiEberal. A self professed and VERY proud LIeBERAL.

My husband said that Mary Jo didn't die in vain, she died to keep Ted Kennedy out of the White house. Parody published by the National Lampoon in 1973. VW sued, so they ran a retraction: "Even if Ted Kennedy had driven a Volkswagen he wouldn't be president today." Stupid Krauts. No sense of humor.
