A woman who was snatched from a bus stop as an 11-year-old child in 1991 turned up Thursday after being held for the past 18 years in isolation in a backyard compound by a convicted sex offender who fathered two children with her, police said.
The details about her time in captivity emerged after Jaycee Lee Dugard surfaced at a police station in Northern California, nearly two decades after she vanished outside her home.
Police said Phillip Garrido, 58, held her the entire time as a virtual slave, sheltered from the outside world in tents, sheds and outbuildings in his backyard in suburban Antioch.

“Neighbor Diane Doty said she could see the tents and often heard children playing in the backyard, the corner of which abuts her own backyard. She said she even suspected the children lived in the tents, but her husband said she should leave the family alone.
“I asked my husband, ‘Why is he living in tents?’” she said. “And he said, ‘Maybe that is how they like to live.’”
I looked for about 6 seconds, that’s all I could take.
Thanks for posting the aerial photograph. It shows how brain-dead the parole officer was that he couldn’t say: “I want to look in your back yard... all of it.”
Not because the parole officer should have suspected a kidnapping, but because a SEX OFFENDER on PAROLE has a bunch of walled off areas in his back yard, and the PAROLE OFFICER doesn’t think it’s important to poke around.
The “parole officer” should become an inmate as a result of all this.
It sounds like she did call LE. They just said they couldn’t enter the property without a warrant and never tried to get one. How awful.
I am glad you’re feeling well. So you’re going to Sac State Fair. Thought of going but it’s too hot. I live in Folsom, it’s close by.
Oregon State Fair.
Thanks for the well wishes.
Can walk normal as of this A.M. just not for long periods of time.
The Live Comedy Show that I am assisting KV to get to tonight serves free juice on tap. : )
Have fun at the fair. Don’t have too much of that sweet ‘koolaid’. LOL.
The Sheriff has held a news conference.
Confirms there was a 911 call three years ago.
Confirms a deputy responded and talked to Garrido.
Says Deputy was not aware that Garrido was a registered sex offender. Did not investigate. Treated the report as a “code violation”. No follow up.
Confirmed a year ago a task force set up to check on sex offenders visited Garrido and did not find any problem.
