The degree of accuracy of the three statements you mention might be calculated by accurately determining what percentage of Jews, Gypsies and Italians actually are “notorious thieves, and Societal nuisances.”
Certainly any such statement is never true of all members of a group, but as the percentage for which it is accurate increases, it becomes progressively more true as a general statement.
Your comment reminds me somewhat of the liberal shock when waitstaff (including black waitstaff) are resistant to serving black groups because of the “stereotype” that blacks are cheap tippers. No research project could be simpler than determining whether blacks (as a group) do indeed tend to stiff waiters, but somehow liberals are utterly uninterested in doing this basic research.
IOW, some stereotypes are quite accurate in the generality, although often unfair to particular members of a given group.
Your moral superiority is showing!
Have you lived in countries where there are gypsies? Have you ever been attacked by a band of children coming out of a Metro who tgry to take your watch and wallet? Stereotypes are wrong, but there is a basis for those stereotypes. Having lived in five countries a total of 13 years, I can understand why there is prejudice against gypsies.
No one is saying that all Roma are “gypsies” but there are packs of vagabonds who exist solely to take from society and move on to the next victims. There are incidents in America too.
Madonna will discover that this culture is unfathomable, impenetrable, because it has at its heart a celebration of the virtue of swindling the "Gaijo". It's not immoral to them any more than hunting for meat is immoral to us. And Gypsies are rarely violent in their predations.
A Gypsy might well find these words that offend you to be complementary, if they cared at all for the expressed opinions. They are not a grievance group for the simple reason that you are "unclean" to them and they would not delve into the kind of community organizing that would be necessary to make them a grievance group.
The reason civilized people don’t call Jews or Italians thieves or social nuisances is because to do so would fly in the face of reality as we all live it. Some Jews and Italians are thieves or social nuisances, but the vast majority aren’t, and there’s nothing in Jewish or Italian culture that is inimical to civilized life. The same cannot be said of Gypsy culture.
