I think I can explain this mystery light in the sky.

It’s a crappy picture of a helicopter emerging from low cloud.

Cancel the alert.

How do we know it’s not just Air Force One off on another pleasure trip?

Google “aperture reflection in digital cameras.”

The first image you posted is a reflection of the interior of the aperture of a digital camera. There was a show oin the History Channel that demonstrated the effect. The second image is a lens flare that was reflected by the image sensor, then shaped by the iris.

Neither are space ships, or anything material. They are camera artifacts.

Picture ... taken fom inside ... light fixture reflecting off of window?

For Pete's sake, how can anything definitive be deduced from this image, even the BUILDING is blurry!

Your hunch if very, very, probable. The person probably
noticed the light image after the fact and is now running with the story.

The open sky visa could easily be Central Park. The direction is quite possibly westerly, towards Jersey.
The faint, wispy clouds that are visible, are cirrus.
The dying tops of storm cumulus that never got going that day. They flow west to east most normally.

My GUESS would be looking towards Jersey either SE or NE.

It looks like the moon to me.

Ditto. It's the moon being partially obscured by some clouds/haze.

A lot of the places in Italy don't have glass in the windows yet so it's easy to understand how the concept of reflection can kind of confuse them.
