Seems some people are actually outraged, outraged that First Lady Michelle Obama dared to bare so much leg by wearing shorts on a recent trip to the sweltering Grand Canyon.
OMG. First she wears a sleeveless dress, now this?
But think about this for a minute. What should she have worn to the Grand Canyon? A tweed pantsuit? A ballgown? What do you wear on your summer vacation?

Regarding Michelle's attire, you can dress casually but still look put together. That's her problem - she looks sloppy. Maybe she needs to shop somewhere like Talbots vs. J Crew.

You both nailed it. I can’t imagine any other sociopolitical elite dressing so mundanely. Here she is getting off flying castle Air Force One, with dressed-to-the-hilt Marines at attention, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars an hour (if not minute), and doing so solely because she’s wife of the most powerful man in the world - while dressed as though from Wal-Mart. It exudes ignorance of status, if not outright disrespect. I won’t begrudge the powerful dressing comfortably for leisure activities, but those of worth have always made a point of even then dressing in a manner respectful of their office, position, wealth, and/or staff.

Not outraged, just disappointed. One would think she would have respect for the office. This was a “working vacation”, and as the wife of the president she should respect the office. She doesn’t have to wear a suit, but some neat casual clothes.
If my husband had to go on a working vacation and I was accompanying him, I would dress with respect for his position. If I’m privately going to Disney World with my kids, then I would dress differently.
I fear that if she is this sloppy now, when the experience is still new, she will be really sloppy by the time they are finished in the White House.
