Vanity: Who is your Favorite Freeper?
self

Posted on 08/17/2009 6:10:52 PM PDT by Jean S

A thread with this title was posted about 10 years ago. The top choices were JohnHuang2 and kattracks (who sadly died of cancer a couple of years ago).

My current favorites are governsleastgovernsbest for posting his great commentaries from newsbusters here (this is NOT an ad). I also like RobinMasters, he finds great articles to post. Also, kudos to Cindy for her relentless research. And of course, Jim Robinson who makes this all possible.

This thread is dedicated to kattracks, a true friend of FR. May she rest in peace.

Sigh.

Staying undercover for Quix is about like . . .

the Queen Mary 2 hiding in a bathtub.

God alone can be my refuge!

My Favorties: Jim and John Robinson with out whom there would be no FReeper Favorites lists.

An honorable mention to HumbleGunner whose caustic remarks have livened up many a day for me, especially when they were aimed at newbies with no idea who he is.

I love all freepers who are unafraid of truth and candor about any subject.

real self examination and to be very informed and not saddled with preening self righteous indignation whilst spouting platitudes and cliches and canards as proof that some reply they feel is the correct answer for our hypersensitive times is somehow cogent

ignorance and lack of boots on the ground experience is the main fault here much like regular citizenry

BUT...probably half of freepers today are pretty solid...maybe more...it used to be worse ...but most of them left last election...good riddance

FR’s political correctness barometer nosedived after that blessed exodus

i have found few southerners here I dislike and few midwesterners too

BluesDuke ~ for his brilliant repository of baseball, musical and funky old appliance knowledge and appreciation; and his adherence to the core values that make us Americans; You can listen to BluesDuke tonight 12PM PST
Flattery will get you everywhere, O favourite FREEPer of mine!

By the way, you can now listen to BluesDuke tonight---or any old time you wish---the way it was supposed to have sounded Monday night, but didn't, thanks to a couple of very gaping glitches (nobody's fault, really; the stand-in board operator---my regular was out ill with a pneumonia relapse, after she tried going back to work a little prematurely---didn't catch a couple of track numbers in my script, missed a sound track entirely, and accidentally hit a sound scripted to appear near the end of the show!).

But I was able to edit the recording (my station records my show while I'm on the air, and I get the recording link by e-mail within an hour after I'm off the air) successfully, meaning I was able to cut the unexpected gaps and insert the missing sound where it was supposed to be, and you can hear the show the way it should have been heard.

Here are the highlights:

1) "Jail for Yawns": A little routine I worked up after reading of a poor schnook who got sentenced at first to six months in the jug for . . . yawning, in court, while there to stand by a cousin facing sentencing on some other business. I wondered what possible kind of yawn could possibly move a judge to throw someone in the can. (The real-life suspect: He was sprung after three weeks.)

2) "Helen and Troy"---A little mad fun with the old-time radio style of dope (er, soap) opera, hooking this around a pair of college professors who've been canned for . . . marriage (their own, to each other, against campus policy), and now freshly minted to Las Vegas, living in a studio apartment, walking Boulder Highway, chatting idly, when suddenly Troy bumps into a white sack full of, well, let's just say it wasn't your typical trash dumped along the road.

3) An actual old-time radio show that actually aired on Monday night's date, in 1947: The Jack Paar Program, with his guest the man who made it possible for him to get that big break that summer---Jack Benny.

Choice blues from Big Bill Broonzy, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Muddy Waters.
