Rumors say OSX.6 Snow Leopard has gone to Gold Master and may be released as early as Friday, August 28th. These may be pictures of Snow Leopard boxing and disk (in Portuguese) lend credence to an earlier release than September... PING!

Mac OSX.6 Snow Leopard Ping!

Could be real, could be fake. Release is for Fall. I could mimic that cover with the stuff sitting on my desk.

These retail packaging photos match the install disc icon in build 10A432.
This is real.

FYI, the install disc icon for Snow Leopard build 10A432 is thus:
Looks real to me.

Can't wait. This upgrade is supposed to be a significant improvement, especially with the Server version, and faster than Leopard by 30% or more.
Somewhat on topic, I used a Vista machine for the first time the other day. What a mess. It was unbelievably slow, just positively painful to use. I tried to set up separate configurations for home and office use, and could barely accomplish the task despite my 30+ years of computing experience. I am so glad we ditched all Microsoft products four years ago.
I think Apple will soon be in a position to mount a real challenge to Microsoft, not just in the niche markets, but for general purpose computing too.

Seriously, Apple has exactly what they want -- a steadily growing market of around 10%. They aren't set up to deal with more than perhaps 20%, tops. If Apple gets above 20% you'll start to see changes you don't like in how they operate, because they'd have to adapt to the needs of the majority market.
The majority market wants Win7, and they'll get it. Win7 is pretty solid. And it runs on the inexpensive PC hardware that the majority of the market want. The majority do not want cool, they want cheap.
Nope, Apple's challenge to Microsoft is that they have a better operating system (in most, but not all, respects), and better hardware than most PC hardware (in most, but not all, respects). If they try to mount a serious market challenge (say, above 20%), they'll have to stop being Apple, and they'll fail.

"And Mac fanbois the world around suddenly go all moist..." ~~~~~~~
The pattern holds:
The first readable comment (one other already removed) is ad hominem and immaturely off color -- with no reference to the product or its technology at all.
Nice to know we can count on non-Mac folks to be drawn to our threads like moths to a flame -- and to be so childishly predictable...

If you don't want the thread to degenerate into YAFW (yet another flame war), just ignore them, and they'll go away in time; or they'll get so desperate to elicit a response that their comments will draw AdminMod fire and you'll get to enjoy a ZOT.
Now, what was the topic of the thread again? Ah, yes, Snow Leopard...

(one other already removed) The already removed comment was removed at my request... it's not a flame. It was another one of those pesky double post that FR sometimes creates when the address list is long.

And Mac fanbois the world around suddenly go all moist... Nah, man, that's humidity -- 80% RH out here, and 90+ degrees. That's just sweat... ;-)
