Last night I was watching Lock & Load on the History channel in my home office. Great show going over the history of artillery, pistols, and tanks.
Tonight, I turn on the T.V. and it is still on the History Channel This really interesting show was on the History Channel called "How The Earth Was Made" Very cool show btw. I turned it on and it was talking about how land masses came together to form one big land mass. Then that one big mass broke apart and gave us the continents we have now.
Fast forwarding a bit it gets to the ice age and the beginning of man. The last ice age ended 10,000 years ago and mammals (humans primarily) thrived. The ice age was caused by the joining of North and South America because of volcanic activity. This changed the ocean currents and then you have an ice age. From 10,000 years ago to 2,000,000 ago between that time the ice sheets expanded and retreated many times.
Then it gets to a point where global warming is mentioned. The narrarrator says "Our first major challenge will be the climate." I'm thinking here it comes, man made global warming will kill us all. But to my utter shock and surprise the narrator says "At the start of the 21st century, we may worry about global warming. But, most scientists recognize we are in a gap between ice ages. Our whole civilization has occured in a brief warm period, 10,000 years so far. This warmth has proved crucial." Then the narrator said "Even if our industrial economies affected global warming over the next couple of centuries, it can do no more than delay the inevitable. Continents current positions keeping the polar oceans cool meaning in just 15,000 years a new ice age will occur."
How can this be? Currently, our entire economy and way of life is being planned by government based on the so called fact that our big SUV's are going to make the planet warm, the poles melt, and flood most of the land, and cause massive food shortages killing us all.
Will someone please tell this to the Congress and our President and Al Gore?

Technically, we are overdue - by several thousand years - for the coming Ice Age.
And, the continents have been within a few thousand feet of their current positions for roughly the last 250,000 years. And these positions never stopped - nor even delayed! - the Ice Ages in the past.
You do realize that Earth is just 6,000 years old, don’t you? Stay away from that science stuff.
I taped last night’s show so I could watch it at my lesiure and FF through the normal History Channel AGW BS. Now I might be able to actually enjoy one of these shows. Thanks for the heads-up.
All in a day’s work.
“The ice age was caused by the joining of North and South America because of volcanic activity. This changed the ocean currents and then you have an ice age.”
That statement is highly speculative and I would place no credence in it what so ever.
“From 10,000 years ago to 2,000,000 ago between that time the ice sheets expanded and retreated many times.”
But the ice never retreated all that much. All of this stuff on the HC is becoming more and more junk and speculative science presented as “fact” ie “settled” science.
Which leads to their point about man made global warming: if you fall for the first erroneous misdirection, then you will buy the second.
HC is becoming a propaganda and de-educator of the watching public. Take everything including Lock & Load (which ommited in its machine gun segiment the major and first machine pistol made by the germans in WWII) with several grains of salt.
It is nice to see these events portrayed in color and moving graphics with faux actors, rather than dry text books and papers. Bad science is one thing, but intentional misrepresentation another.
I think the data has been steadily eroding the AGW meme. Most of the scientists who are highlighted in these programs may need to cover their behinds, just so they aren't outed as tame government shills. These networks usually present information at a 7th grade level. Just as they inserted the global warming stuff slowly over time, then ramped up to entire shows dedicated to global warming caused by industrialization, they are now backtracking and acting as though *new information* has superseded the former concerns.
Everyone can see from experience that the climate is cooling. Skeptical folks won't watch overt propaganda for long. The networks need to stay relevant enough to still be capable of influencing the population or they will lose all credibility and even the true believers will stop watching. I remember back when every program was about animal species disappearing. Then, people watching would begin to question in their own living rooms:”If all the animals are disappearing, how can they get these fantastic wildlife videos showing all these animals?” Worse, even true believers, back in the 80s, began to rebel, saying:”I can't watch another of those “All the animals are dying’ shows. It is just too depressing.”
Propaganda can be difficult to sustain over time if the facts stubbornly contradict it.
I love the following “fun fact”...
Continental drift occurs at approximately the speed that your fingernails grow.
I agree with you that the reasoning presented is highly speculative, and not even close to accepted.
