What do you think of the S&W m&p 9mm?

What do you Freepers think of the S&W m&p 9mm?

I've been hearing some really good things, but a few people have had nothing but trouble. I'm inclined to think that any gun could potentially be a lemon, and that people are more likely to tell about a bad experience than a good one. Still, I want your opinions if you have one.

Thanks as always,

FA

I got a Springfield XD 9 mm. Love it.

Me too. It fits my hand perfectly, and just naturally points at the target. The S&W is not bad, but I really love my XD.

I’ll second the H&K. I have 9MM USP

I third the H&K. I have a P30(pic in my profile). Fantastic grip. Up around 1000 rounds down the pipe and not the slightest malf in any way. It's still young, but there's not a hint of a problem with it.

For 9mm, I’m a big fan of the Beretta 92fs

I've been extremely pleased with my Beretta 92FS.

I may look at getting a shotgun next. Suggestions?

Mossberg 590 or Remington 870 both work fine. I'd stick with a regular stock instead of a pistol grip and no stock, 00 buck or slugs.

I love my S&W Military & Police.

Of course, mine rolled off the line in 1898. McKinley was President, and America was involved in a jolly little dustup called the Spanish-American War.

But seriously, I've heard a lot of good about the new model. I suspect that you can't go wrong with one.

Take a look at the Magnum Research Baby Eagle.

Yup, I second that. It's my carry 9mm and I like it very much. It's a very strong but relatively light gun built on the proven CZ 75/85 chassis. Unlike the CZ, it has a decocker safety. The new ones have an integral accessory rail. I prefer it to any of the polymer guns that I have fired. The only drawbacks is a scarcity of accessories and the expense of extra mags.

It's also cool to have a gun that says "Made in Israel" on it. It creates cosmic levels of irony when it shares the range bag with my Nazi-marked Luger.

The S&W Military & Police model 9mm (and the 45acp version too) is simply the best semi auto product Smith has produced in the history of the company. I have never liked any of the S&W semi autos for their ergonomics in all their storied past. Then I handled and FIRED one of the standard sized 9mm's and one of the 45's and I was seriously impressed. However I wouldn't go out of my way to actually buy one simply because I already own an H&K P30 and a Sig 45 so those are covered in a better format. Guess that makes me a "gun snob," huh?

I like the glock 19 a lot more, but if youre bound and determined to get a M&P then I suggest you get the variant that comes with a thumb safety. This way the piece can be carried with the safety engaged and a round in the chamber.

A good friend carries the compact version of this handgun with an aftermarket trigger job done by an Ohio gunsmith named David Bowie at Bowie Tactical.

I carry a Glock 19 most of the time that Im not just carrying my smith model 642 airweight snubby revolver.

They still make the Smegma. Its the bargain offering of the smith line, and Im told they work just fine. A friend of mine had the 9mm smegma but got rid of it due to the cost at that time of extra magazines for it.

depends upon what handgun it is that the police traded in.

“S&W has never been know(n) for semi auto pistols...”

I beg to differ.
I have a S&W model 39(-2), the first American 9mm auto developed after WW2.
It is a beautiful side-arm, and has never given me one problem in the 25+ years that I’ve had it.

I also have a Sigma. I consider it a utilitarian side-arm that will do it’s job. Inexpensive, and functional.

I beg to differ.

Yeah, nevermind the fact that nobody in the entire country makes more of them.
