With more than $300 million in production and marketing spending on the line for the opening of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" on Friday, Paramount has a message for critics: Go see the movie with everyone else.
A spokesperson for the studio confirmed that there would be no screenings for reviewers at print and broadcast media outlets, meaning if they want to see the film, they will have to go Friday along with regular moviegoers.

Being that I grew up with GI Joe in every aspect of my life (action figures, TV show, Halloween costumes, birthday party themes), I wanted to give the movie the benefit of the doubt. Thank you for correcting me.
I firmly stand behind the thought that this is a strategy by Paramount. They want more butts in the seats, and having it released before it makes it to the theaters would be suicide for the box office numbers.
Being outed? For what? A Paramount shill? Given that the MPAA is suing people for hundreds of thousands of dollars for sharing movies through Torrent networks, I think they’re a bunch of thieves and thugs a la Rahm Emanuel. I would prefer Paramount burn, but they are an organization in business to make money. Good for them for protecting their interests!
Oh, YOU KNOW.
I am reporting you to the White House.
You are sooooo xrewed.
Not a good sign for the quality of the pic
And here I thought it was the next Ben-Hur

Send those racist community organizers my way. I’m looking forward to it.
Here they come:
I don’t know about Pro-American. Something was posted a couple days ago about the director did not want for Republicans to go see the movie (paraphrasing here).
Hey, now just a dang minute! Scorpion King was a great...uh...was a good...well, an OK...
Never mind.
You must have really loved Gigli.
Critics typically aren't given screener copies of a new movie. What usually happens is that a week or so before the release the critics are invited to special screenings in a screening room somewhere, with security and studio marketing people in attendance. In a big city, they might do two screenings to get as many critics in as possible. Then they have a few days to write their reviews before they're published on the same Friday that the movie's released.
For the studio, showing this kind of movie to critics has no upside. You can bet that they're going to hate it just for being a big, dumb, loud action movie, and there's a good chance that the movie isn't going to do very well. What they can hope for is a big opening weekened, especially on Friday before any word of mouth can get around. Reviews will only dilute the Friday numbers.
You did get me to laugh at that.
And that line is in the movie. I think if I were an actor and offered a role in the movie, I would want getting that line to be in my contract.
I’m wondering how much the fact that it is a worldwide force is going to be played up in the movie though. The only Joes that get any screen time appear to be Americans playing Americans except Snake Eyes, but there aren’t a lot of Americans who can do what Ray Park can and Snake Eyes doesn’t talk anyway.
It appears that people who have seen it love it for the explosions and all of that good stuff. At least it hasn’t been described as raping anyone’s childhood like Transformers 2 was.
Sounds like Transformers 2.
And Laz... I don’t know how they’re hanging from a roof. I live in a villa. They’d have to get past the Rottweiler’s first.
Why base your viewing on what others say?
They just are. You gonna mess with THAT???!?
Theyd have to get past the Rottweilers first.
That's what the upside-down axe guy was doin'.
Battle? Aren’t we just talking about a couple hours in a movie theater?
I’ll make sure I have a guided idea when I go to see it.
I can think of a few dozen activities that would be better served by my $10. Hell, $10 serves 4 people at food pantry I work at on the weekends. I'd rather help the hungry than watch liberal claptrap.
In "Superman Returns" I cringed when Perry White (Frank Langella)talking about a Superman story for the paper said "Truth, justice, and all that stuff..." instead of the American Way..
I don’t know if I’ll “mess” with that, but a few .308 rounds would go through their BPVs and the nylon rapelling cords if properly aimed. They’re most likely using 9mm SMGs.
Not saying I’d live (both Rotties would), but I’ll go down fighting.
Bring it on Obama!
All I know is the trailer looked like crap.
Good for you. Why even think about movies in the first place then, aren’t they all liberal claptrap?
