The Hathaway ads were big then...they beat Arrow routinely.

The little girls is advertising girls shampoo not a little girl advertising women's shampoo

but advertisers were wacky then too

now, they are arguably the premier agents for social engineering and love to focus on stereotyping traditional folks as idiots, whites as idiots, blacks as wise, blonde women as craving black men...white guys occasionally get the Asian chick and vice versa and so forth

ads directed at under 40s who must be stalwarts not to be brainwashed by all this by now always feature feminine looking white guy (more common than ever admittedly), Chinese or Hispanic girl or both, mixed race gal..usually pretty, very black guy or sorta Lenny Kravitz looking ambiguous black guy and white girl...the black guy always gets the white girl..of course they are all so earnest , smug and hip doing the right thing like being Green or buying a tortoise box hybrid car....some even make hints about Fearless leader...like you should get it...wink-nod.

the worst PC brainwashing is in the ads they show before movies when you are captured, they know folks don't like all this all the time being shoved down their throats but in the theatre they can push their agenda

so is it about selling stuff or changing the world?

you tell me.

you kids laugh and take a posture of moral indignation over these old ads today but yet you are surrounded by stuff that is much more offensive and don't even realize it anymore, it's your reality

the racial engineering is personal choice..fine but do we really have to have it become de riguer in every ad aimed at young folks....does anyone really live like this?, (it's like I'd like to buy the world a coke on steroids in it's smarmy factor) but the feminization of the cool American male image is sickening, I go out and look at these young men and unless they are in the military or damned thugs (the flip side), then they are sissies.

isn't there a book about this somewhere...the men all turn either queer acting or predators

like Molochs and Eloi

I agree on the Lenny Kravitz ‘ideal.’ I have noticed that myself...along with the white guy is always wrong, or the butt of the joke...never the black/hispanic guy or any woman.

WD, considering all of the poofters working on Madison Avenue these days, should we be surprised?

No, but that doesn't necessarily make the trend some kind of plot to change racial attitudes.

More likely, these ads are exploiting preexisting racial attitudes to make them more eye-catching. We take notice when we see a mixed race couple on tv because they are so rare in the real world. For a lot of people, seeing an attractive mixed race couple will provoke at least mild curiosity, and at most an intense excitement. It provokes a sexual response, either positive ("oooh, how exotic!") or negative ("they're taking our women!"). Best of all it's something controversial, but also something that no one can complain about without being suspected of bigotry. The mixed race ads stick in the minds of a lot of potential customers, and that may be enough for some of the advertising agency's clients.

Of course, even if it was some kind of intentional plot it seems pretty harmless. Isn't a world where race doesn't matter more preferable to our own?

Ads today are more disgusting and vile than they ever were. I mean, we can all cringe and chuckle at some of the over the top and slightly misogynist tendencies in some of these older ads, but I have to wonder about some people on here who are so shocked and horrified and are criticizing anyone who could find these ads funny... Do these people think today’s ads are perfectly fine? Do they really think we have advanced as a society???
Yes, there is a great deal of social engineering going on in ads today: sexualizing children, fetishizing minority women, trying to push interracial dating and homosexuality. The agenda behind these ads is so horrific and yet, no one seems to bat an eye at it.
