It is probably the handiwork of the same individual who generated the phrase: “went missing”. People don’t “go missing”. They either “are missing” or “are not missing”.

I agree with you, I find some of these phrases annoying. However, as someone who was born and raised in the southern Appalachians, I probably shouldn’t complain. I can mangle the English language with the best of them. You’uns have a good day. I’m a fixin to go to work.-—JM
