Man! Your title had me wondering how a Python got on the golf course!

Two things: One, I saw this clip [or one very much like it] back in the early to mid 50s, as part of bit on “Andy’s Gang”. Two, what kind of idiot goes into the jungle around tigers armed with a .30-30?

The python would have had a better chance against the guy in the pith helmet. I doubt his 30-30 would have done him much good against the snake.

Tiger seemed a bit young. Should have been able to make a meal out of the snake.

Back in the good old days when you could lob a snake at a tiger just for the fun of filming it.
This is why cats instinctively attack moving strings and shoelaces.

Just wow. I have never seen anything like that, and I have seen some impressive wildlife footage.
Watching the whole thing, you could see the snake desperately trying to get two coils around the tiger. When it did, the tiger was clearly in trouble, and the snake was trying to get one more coil around.
I thought the tiger was finished, not a chance in the world. Amazing that it escaped. It must have been desperate or stupid to attack that python.

Yeah...I think it was pretty cruel. Even still, that did not decrease the intensity of the fight.
I read once where they actually would pit bears against bulls in an arena. That must be one hell of a match.

As odd as it might sound now, during the time of this action it was not uncommon for many hunters to use .30 cal rifles in dangerous game/safari situations. Admittedly the .30-.30 is at the low end of the range, but it can be effective in the right hands and with the right loads. And also, who's to say that there wasn't a back-up guide with a .500 Nitro standing watch?
Personally, I'd favor something along the lines of a .416. But thats just me....;-)

That Jaguar -vs- Anaconda was a heckuva contest. ...with the Jag’s family looking on. Of the big cats, they’re the strongest for their size/weight.

Another thing: cats HATE things that make hissing sounds...now it could be because OTHER cats do it, but can you imagine the hiss from a frikking python that big?
I would have to be wearing my brown pants.
My cats hate the sound of deodorant and leave the vicinity.

I wasn’t thinking about the caliber of the rifle. I was thinking of the impracticality of trying to shoot a snake wrapping itself around a man. How does the would-be victim shoot an attacking snake with a rifle at such close range? How do you shoot a snake attacking another man without hitting the man?
