John S. Barry, the man "who masterminded the spread of WD-40," as The New York Times puts it, has died at age 84. The product he promoted is more popular than an iPod. WD-40 can be found in 4 out of 5 American households, the company claims. Its ingredients are a secret, and it has generated its share of myths and strange applications over the years.....

r he still dead, or did they use WD-40 to reanimate the TV huckster?
Done that.
Used it today to free up a used car part I got at a junk yard. It worked great..... as usual.
It’s a miracle product. Used it today twice. Once to free up a rusts bolt on a lawnmower and after brushing dirt and rust off an antique pick ax.
May the founder RIP and may his way to heaven smoothed by his product.
If that bearded screaming bastard promoted it I will never have it again and will throw out the can in my truck tomorrow!!!!

He lives on YouTube.
Warning. Strong language.
But, it is funny and worth a look.

It is said that one can repair anything if one has two things: A roll of Duct Tape and a can of WD-40.
If it moves and it isn’t supposed to, put duct tape on it.
If it does not move and it is supposed to, put WD-40 on it.
I’ll have to try that..
All you need to know in life:
If it moves and should’nt: Duct tape.
If it doesn’t move and should: WD 40
dammit. beat me by mere seconds. I got distracted here at the bar answering a question about Irish Car Bombs.
A somewhat remarkable fact - fishermen in the Northwest have known for years that Chinook seem to like it.
We used to lightly spray the bait (herring) with it.
Something about the smell - maybe it smell like fish guts, as king salmon are likely to strike a herring if it is wounded and vulnerable.
I’m thinking Xylol with some fragrance and oil.
I’ve heard people say “never use on guns!”, etc, but I suspect that’s BS.
if he had actually spoke like that I wouldn’t have almost had a heart attack every time the bastard came on TV!
As it is I will never have any product that he ever promoted if it was free!
WD-40 is horrible as a penetrating lube. The real use for WD-40 is to remove water-based machining tool coolants from the workpiece. That’s it. The rest of its success has been marketing.
For penetrating lube, PB or Kroil actually work.
Put John S. Barry’s mortal remains into a 55-gallon drum of WD-40 and hit it with a flare gun. That’s a fitting sendoff.
Nice umm... truck.
