Beckham gets rude welcome in return to Los Angeles

David Beckham received a rude welcome from disgruntled Galaxy fans in his return to Los Angeles, confronting one who leapt out of the stands at halftime of Galaxy's friendly against AC Milan.

The English star, who missed the first half of the Major League Soccer season while on loan to AC Milan, was booed roundly during introductions, and again on his first several touches of the ball.

Some of those who were angered by Beckham's stated desire to remain in Italy, and his belated return to his US club, made their feelings felt with banners and gestures such as holding up Beckham's jersey and beating it.

As Beckham left the field at halftime, he approached a section of stands and appeared to shout something.

A fan jumped down from the section and was subdued by security and escorted off the pitch.

Beckham played for the Galaxy in a 3-1 MLS victory at the New York Red Bulls on Thursday, but the friendly against AC Milan was his first match in front of Galaxy home fans since his return.

Whatever you fricking pu$$y.

Out of the contact sports that I really play, and you fake that you do, players whine in every sport - about holding, pass interference, being fouled on a shot (which is the worst), and calls over balls and strikes.

Wow, someones got a nerve exposed.

I fake playing? Wow.. someone really really has a nerve exposed.

Yes players complain in every sport, but my experience has been soccer is the worst, they whine constantly about everything. Are all soccer players whiners? Nope, but they definately have the highest percentage of whiners of any of the sports I play.

I think the big problem here is that American sports fans are positively civil compared to soccer fans around the world, mostly because here in the USA sports fans can cheer for multiple major sports, not just one major dominant spectator sport. As such, fan passion tends to get dissipated, not highly concentrated like you get in Europe, South America, parts of Africa and much of Asia.

Interestingly, the image of the soccer hooligan in England has become increasingly obsolete, thanks to the two tragedies that befell English fans: the Heysel Stadium riot in 1985 and the Sheffield Stadium disaster in Hillsborough, England in 1989. These two acts resulted in much tighter soccer stadium crowd control rules in the UK and the mandatory switch to all-seater configurations for stadiums for better crowd control.
