Im disgusted with Firefox. I upgraded one of my PCs and now Firefox is allowing advertisers to pop-up but it is more like a new Firefox is starting and it is going to some advertisers website. Really sucks.It sounds completely atypical. Check your settings (Tools, Options, Content, "block popup windows"). Try add-ons "Adblock Plus" and "NoScript" also.

Apples and oranges. The Real Player download plug-in feature allows one to save web videos to one’s hard drive.
I use it to archive videos, not play them.
