Over the short haul guns are OK but in a full blown zombie apocalypse guns are a problem. They’re loud, they need a lot of maintenance, and they will eventually run out of ammo, not to mention head shots are difficult. Swords don’t attract as much attention, are easier to maintain, never need reloading, and it’s a bit easier to smack heads than shoot them.
There are a couple of things I don’t quite understand about your post.
First is, this thing about running out of ammo. I can’t quite see myself doing that. I look around the house and just can’t see that happening. That must happen in only Zombie movies.
The other is this thing about maintenance with firearms. I’ve had to change a lot of parts in guns but that was mostly a 1911 Colt that I had which had a very unlucky life. It should be fine now. All the parts have been changed.
Head shots difficult? Well, maybe but that’s under the clock and I do pretty well. I don’t have to Mosambique a zombie. That’s a waste of time. I’ll just go straight for the head and save a couple of rounds and seconds.
Swords are fine. They look really nice on the wall and they don’t seem to have the horror from the libs like an AK or something. Every guy should have a couple on the walls, a machete or two in the trunk and just for giggles a tomahawk or three.
Oh, and entrenching shovels are cheap at a local Surplus store. WWI soldiers liked them because you didn’t have to retract them from the body. I heard of a guy who almost died because his bayonet bent under a rib and he couldn’t pull it out. After that, he just sharpened his shovel.
