In 1969 they lowered the mound across baseball, largely because of Gibby’s dominance.

That's true. In basketball they raised the hoop to 10ft because of Wilt Chamberlain. Amazing athletes.

They wanted more scoring. Same reason the DH exists in the AL. I always viewed the DH as welfare for over-the-hill outfielders.

Not largely because of Gibson’s dominance. The problem was that about fifteen or twenty pitchers all had ERAs at or below 2.
