What is the downside of her publishing pictures of herself with little clothing on a social networking site. Even if it is just friends, or even friends of friends...how far could these pictures go?
You can also find out if she is already out there. Google for her using the name/nickname she uses, then filter search with additional pieces of information she has on her FB page. You all might be surprised.
I doubt anyone that puts a box around his responses, could be net-passive.
Nothing comes up from face book. I used her name and face book and the school she attends.
If she is over 18 and the situation was bikini appropriate, it seems fine as long as she knows that many employers will check that. Pretty much everyone I know have something like this on Facebook. We have some memorial day photos where we went boating with friends and most folks where dressed like that, including my wife, you go on boars in the lake, you sure don’t wear suits. I think my pastor’s family even has pool pics on FB.
There is a lot of hyperbole on this thread. Wow.
If she is in a normal run of the mill bikini she is just like millions of other young women on facebook and myspace.
The photos could potentially be used for nefarious purposes I suppose, but I don’t know how likely that really is. After all there are plenty of people in the world who willingly do those things.
I’m quite sure any potential employer would guess that any potential employee has been to the beach/lake at some point and was probably wearing a swimsuit of some type. If that were actually enough to have someone disqualified from a job they wouldn’t have anyone to hire.
Overall I would guess that the chances of the negatives spouted off on this thread like near certainties actually happening at very slim. Wearing a bikini in a picture and putting that picture on fb isn’t exactly a huge moral failing.
How old is she? Tell her that interviewers and college application (admissions people) look at FB.
Not good what is on the itnernet is forever.
any picture can be copied off the internet.
How can they find her, it doesnt come up with google or google images. and it is private setting
Anywhere on Earth, for now. To other planets, when the Internet gets there.
Well, if you feel that way have her remove the image and tell her why she is to remove it.
well, then don’t worry about it. But you should caution her.
When I search Google images with her name and FACEBOOK. Nothing of hers comes up at all.
brain dead and twenty and not living at home.
Thanks
Untold numbers of women have pictures of themselves in bikinis on the internet because...women wear bikinis...and this does not make them whores or porn stars, nor do all of them meet their end within days at the hands of a serial killer. And believe it nor not, most employers and college admission boards are aware of this.
Thank you for all your help. I think I have a sense of this and will try to move slowly and perhaps she will understand the greater impact of what she is doing.
To be honest I know nothing about facebook. All my kids and most of the older grandkids are on it.I just know that they all have private accounts and nice pages. But your right you have to be careful.
My 17 year old cousin has a photo of her in a bikini.. its neither threatening nor suggestive in anyway.. she is a georgeous girl to boot. She is almost like my daughter in a real way rather than my younger cousin
But I am not worried for her.. she lives in a very down to earth home with good conservative parents. Anyone messes with her, she will make sure they are very very sorry.. then the mom and dad gets involved.. Oh god.. look out!
